- When you start a game of Town Star you first need to choose a location for your town.
This is a critical decision and needs to be chosen very carefully.
Why is that?
First, Gasoline.
Choosing a location that is far from big cities means that you'll have to use more than 1 Gasoline for each shipment,
This is a big issue, at least at the beginning of the game when you have only 40 gasoline available and you need to create a mechanism to produce more.
It can also hurt in the rest of the game because you'll have to use more resources to create Gasoline and it'll decrease those you can use to sell products and earn points.
Therefore, when I choose a location I press on the truck driver on the first second to check that the Gasoline for shipping to the closest city is 1, if it's not I delete the town and choose a new location.

Second, each layout has its own properties.
When you click a town you get its layout name, it can be Forest, Plains, or Desert.
Desert, for instance, comes with an Oil seep, it's a dark pond that can be connected to industry facilities and provide it with crude oil automatically.
In the desert, you can also produce Silica very fast if that's your plan.
In the Plains and in the Forest, you have Trees that can help to build stuff, Ponds you can connect industrial facilities to, generate automatic water to buildings nearby, or sell for 5000 cash which is a lot when you start a layout.
What's special about the Plains is that it's also covered with Pasture, which can be used to feed your animals if you plan to create a layout based on ranch and farming.

Third, surrounding layouts influences.
You have 4 options for surrounding layouts: Ocean, Lake, Mountains, and regular.
The River is treated like Ponds, meaning that all the nearest row will automatically get 2 water, and the one after will get 1.
Ocean nearby will give your town super fast Brine production so you can easily produce Salt.
Mountains will allow you to add Mines and produce stuff like Blue Steel.
When you start your journey try to create a plan, to think of what you'd like to produce and what is your end game, meaning, how you want your final Layout to look like.
Then you can understand what location will suit you best and the whole game can become a lot easier for you.
Hope I've helped guys,
Good luck :)
