"My truth." Many people believe that truth is relative, but is that accurate? Is there an absolute truth? Let’s explore the "My truth is..." statement spouted by so many these days. Let's start by defining the word "truth". Dictionary.com says:
"Truth is:
1. The true or actual state of a matter
2. Conformity with fact or reality; verity
3. A verified or indisputable fact, proposition, principle, or the like
4. The state or character of being true
5. Actuality or actual existence"
If someone claims, “My truth is that 2 + 2 = 5”, does that make it correct? No, of course not. Just because you believe something, does not make it true. There are times when in ignorance we come to an inaccurate conclusion because we simply don't have enough information. However, we need to be aware that the truth can be manipulated by purposely omitting information. Sadly this is very common.
An example of this tactic is the January 6th, 2021 Capital event. The Democrats and the media claim that there were violent deaths that occurred on that day. They accuse the deaths on Trump supporters. One of the facts they are hiding is that the only people who died at the Capital on that day were Trump supporters. And it appears that they died because of (or by the hand of) the police. This article is not about Jan 6 but if you want to know more see my article “What Really Happened on 1/6/21?”.
The truth is the truth, like the article written by (the left-leaning) NPR.org "There Is Such a Thing as Truth" says:
”There is such a thing as truth, but we often have a vested interest in ignoring it or outright denying it. Also, it's not just thinking something that makes it true. Truth is not relative. It's not subjective. It may be elusive or hidden. People may wish to disregard it. But there is such a thing as truth and the pursuit of truth: trying to figure out what has really happened, trying to figure out how things really are.”
My point here is that there is an absolute truth. We might not always have enough facts to know what it is, or we may not like it. But the truth is the truth whether we choose to believe it or not. Here is a short video from Frank Peretti (one of my favorite authors) speaking on “fixed point of reference vs relativism”. I strongly encourage you to watch this. It is not only insightful but very entertaining.
The Most Important Truth
Just like with most things, religion/spirituality is a subject that has many differing and opposing views. If you desire the truth, don't pay attention to someone that believes that the truth "doesn't matter". If you want the truth, it does matter. Since most religions have drastically opposing views, they cannot all be true. My suggestion is that if you are a seeker of truth, and want to find out who God really is, then start by asking God, the Creator of the universe, to reveal Himself to you. If you ask with a sincere heart, He will help you to find Him and the truth.
I encourage you to seek the truth in all matters. But the most important truth you will ever seek is your relationship with God. Our loving Creator wants to have a relationship with you, that is why we were created, but it is our job to reach out to Him with a heart for truth.
Thank you for reading. May your endeavors to find the truth be successful.
