bitcoin is much more than something to buy and hold. what if you could use it to access financial services, borrow funds, and explore defi opportunities without having to sell it? that is one of the things that makes mezo interesting to me. it is building an ecosystem that aims to give bitcoin more real-world utility.
1st) borrow against your bitcoin one of mezo's main features is mezo borrow, which allows users to borrow against their bitcoin instead of selling it. mezo highlights fixed interest rates 1% and i like this idea because it gives bitcoin holders another way to access liquidity while maintaining exposure to btc.
2nd) tbtc – bringing bitcoin into mezo mezo also supports tbtc, a tokenized version of bitcoin backed 1-to-1 by btc reserves. the project highlights more than 25,000 btc bridged, alongside audited and open-source infrastructure. this makes it interesting to see how bitcoin-backed assets can be used across different applications.
3rd) stablecoin opportunities through stake dao mezo has also highlighted a musd/usdc/usdt pool on curve through stake dao. one of its posts showed an apr of 89.14% and around $678.65k in tvl, including boosted rewards. rates can vary, but it is interesting to see mezo connecting with existing defi platforms.
4th) mezo buildathon mezo is also encouraging developers to build new applications. its first buildathon attracted 119 teams that spent 10 days building with musd and mezo, competing for $2,000 in mezo rewards. i like seeing this kind of activity because a strong ecosystem needs developers and people building useful applications. why i like mezo what stands out to me is that mezo is bringing several things together: bitcoin borrowing, tokenized bitcoin, defi opportunities, and developer tools. instead of focusing only on bitcoin as an asset to hold, mezo is exploring more ways to make it useful within everyday finance.
my final thoughts
i find mezo interesting because of its overall direction and the different opportunities it is building around bitcoin. i will be keeping an eye on how its ecosystem develops. what do you think about mezo? would you borrow against your bitcoin instead of selling it? disclaimer: this article is for informational purposes only and is not financial advice. always do your own research.
