In a well structured paper, FCA made very clear that in its opinion the world of investors is populated by a bunch of idiots! How can a common person understand the risk and the immaterial nature of a Bitcoin? Per sure the Regulator has to protect this herd of sheep that are endangered by the crypto wolves! Thank you financial cops, we really needed you here!
Ok guys, when it comes to asses the risk of losing money, well, according to FCA g-men you can destroy your fortune betting on football or speculating on the FTSE or the Nasdaq. This for the Regulator is no issue! Green light, go ahead! But if you want to try your luck buying Bitcoin maybe averaging the price of your investment with a monthly instalments plan on a CFD in a regulated Exchange to tame its volatility: man, this is not kosher at all!!!
To make a long story short, FCA stated that they understand thnowadays the Bitcoin and Ethereum are widely accepted as means of payments around the world, and also, yes, they know that if they ban financial instruments connected to cryptos, clients will move to exchanges registered outside the UK.
Nonetheless, after considering pros and cons, the decision is: banned!
The axe went down on the necks of the cryptos and from January 6, 2021 no more CFDs or any kind of investment products that reference cryptoassets will be allowed in the wonderful Albion.
Cryptos will go on anyway, I think, but is important to learn how the big boys are dealing with this topic: when FCA goes one way, we'd better not cross it. We may agree with this or not, but FCA is something that we have to watch carefully.
