Spoiler: It’s not cheating. It’s emotional support.

Let's be honest:
My partner sometimes forgets our anniversary.
He leaves his socks on the floor.
They still haven't learned that I hate loud chewing.
But RavenQuest?
Remember I like potatoes. He gives me a dog that wags its tail every time I get home. He never judges me for putting on my pajamas at 3 p.m.
And when I walk into my little farmhouse after a hard day, the fire is already lit. No questions asked.
The NPC Who Listens Better Than My Therapist
I once spent 40 hours building a perfect farmhouse just to impress Robin, the carpenter.
She said, "You've really made this place feel like home."
And I... cried.
Not because she said so.
But because no one else had noticed.
In real life, we are often invisible. We smile despite the stress. We say "I'm okay" when we're not.
We interpret happiness as a side quest we didn't sign up for.
But in games?
They see us.
Animal Crossing greets you by name every day.
The Sims lets you rebuild your life from scratch.
Disco Elysium asks, "Are you okay?" and waits for an answer.
And yes, it's code.
But sometimes, code feels more human than people.
The Game That Knew I Was Sad (Before I Did)
I was playing Gris for a week and didn't want to get out of bed. I didn't tell anyone. But the game... slowed down. The colors faded.
The music hurt.
It didn't say, "Are you okay?"
It just kept going.
And that was enough.
Because understanding isn't always summed up in words. Sometimes, it's silence.
A warm campfire. A pixelated cat purring on your lap.
So yes, I trust my game more than my partner (sometimes).
Not with secrets. Not with my bank password. But with the silent parts. The fragile parts. The ones that just need to be seen without fixing.
My partner loves me. I know that. But they're human. They get tired. They get distracted. They get busy.
But my game?
It's always there.
It saves my progress.
It remembers my name.
It gives me a safe place to fail.
And when I press "Continue," it doesn't sigh.
It says,
"I've been waiting for you."
🎮 Tell me:
What game has won you over in a way no one else could?
Leave it in the comments.
I'm not judging. We've all hugged a controller like it's therapy.
👉 Welcome to "The World is a Video Game," where even the NPCs know how to listen.
Note: Not everything real is as it seems, and not everything unseen is fictional or actually happening. This story may or may not be true. Believe what you want, but does your partner really know how you feel? Have you taken the time to talk to them? Have you told them what's going on inside? Maybe your partner feels the same way? That's why it's always MUCH BETTER to talk head-on, without games or technology, and express how we feel to our partners.
“Tag someone who gets you… or whose game gets you.”
Thanks for getting here. See you next time, my friends.
