I think we all want economic freedom.
I don't know a single person who raises a hand and says, "Yes, I want to work for the man for the rest of my life." A prior generation's mindset was that, more or less. They thought that if they put in their time, then they'd enjoy retirement. So they delayed living for 60 years only to find that when they got to retirement, they weren't the same people anymore. Then what? Did they look back at 60 years and find it rather hollow? Were they angry? Did they just give up?
It was the last one, and it's still true today. If you look at stats, you'll find that a lot of people make their job the most important thing in their lives, and when it's gone, they're gone -- the suicide and death rates of people in retirement are catastrophic, especially among men. It's definitely not all happy times among the blue-hair set.
TLDR: You can't wait too long to live.
So what then is economic freedom? Is it not the ability to do what you want to with your own money, unencumbered by government? Yes. But what is behind economic freedom but freedom itself, the ability to make your own choices and basically do your own thing? Isn't that the cry of humanity, to be free?
But say that we manage to obtain economic freedom (no small feat). Say that you've managed to make some killer investments and now you can live off Bitcoin or the altcoin of your choice. You've got enough interest coming in that you no longer have to work for the man. Now what? You can do whatever your funds allow. So what will you do?
I think that's a seismic shock right there. Unless you have a plan, a goal, a dream, then being able to do what you want isn't exactly freeing. You still have to choose to do something -- there's more than just being free. It's those dreams that give us direction and help build purpose.
That's what's underneath all of this - something better than hookers and blow money - the desire to be unchained and to give without fear. If I don't depend upon another to pay my way, I have all the time I need to build things, to do things, to go places, to meet people, to invest in life however I want. No-one can stop me. If crypto allows more people to do that, then it is not only good, it is great.
I'm sure we don't need a world of influencers, of up-to-the-minute news, or hypebois. What we do need are more unencumbered souls, free to give, to invest, and create, to reach all of their potential now kept hidden as they slave away on keyboards and in call centers.
