Should you Withdraw your PRE Tokens?

By Kuroshio | The Good Things in Life | 18 Mar 2021

Much has been written about the virtues of the Presearch search engine. Personally, I have been a satisfied user of the platform for about 2 years, and have made withdrawals several times after reaching the 1000 PRE minimum. I'm sure many of you use it as well. Recently withdrawals are on hold because of the high gas fees on the Etherium network, but if you're one of the users who has reached the withdrawal minimum or are close to it, and waiting for the withdraws to go through, I would advise you to reconsider withdrawing, and use their staking option instead!

What is staking on Presearch?

In the crypto world, staking a coin usually provides you with an interest return in the same or some closely related coin. On Presearch, you can stake a minimum of 1000 PRE tokens (currently equal to roughly $100, thank you bull market!) on a search term, and your stake allows you to advertise on that keyword. For example; lets say you have a dog grooming business, and you want a small ad for your business to show up at the top of the page any time someone searches for "dog grooming", you simply go to the staking dashboard, and search for "dog grooming" in the keyword search field.

But dog grooming is a fairly niche, localized business, and advertising it without accounting for location is not very efficient. And what's more, I'm not a dog groomer. Let's see if we can stake a more popular search term like "Bitcoin".

You would be forgiven if you think that staking such large sums on an ad is not the best use of your tokens. And what if you don't have anything to advertise anyway?

To address the first point, there are still plenty of search terms that can be available for 1000 PRE, with some creative marketing it's easy to find your little advertising niche. That brings us to the second point...

What Should I Place an Ad For?

Promote your blog, your website, your YouTube or LBRY channel. Anything where clicks will earn you an income. Note that the top ad link for the search term "Bitcoin" is a referral link for the Bitmex exchange. If you're reading this blog, chances are you're involved in crypto to some degree, and have an exchange or platform that you can refer users to to earn some form of commission. To demonstrate just how easy this is, I'll stake my 1000 PRE on the search term "crypto blog", and advertise my Publish0x ambassador link.

Give it a try - search for "crypto blog" on Presearch, and if no one has outbid me at the time of you reading this, my referral link should show up at the top of your searches.

How do I Find the Best Keyword to Use?

The more PRE tokens you have, the more stakes you can make and see what works and what doesn't. Presearch also recommend several resources on their blog, such as www.wordtracker.com, keywordtool.io and www.wordstream.com. You can also start typing your keyword into google, and autocomplete will show you a list of popular search terms. The key is keeping it relevant to what it is you are advertising. Even if your chosen keyword doesn't get a lot of searches, if your ad is highly relevant to those who may search for that keyword, that might serve you better than a more popular (and thus expensive) search term.

What About the Competition?

Google? Generally works on a PPC (pay per click) system, where it's possible to advertise on any budget, and you only pay when someone clicks your ad. The price per click will range from $1 to upwards of $50 depending on the industry and the popularity of your targeted keyword. So suppose you start out with $100 for your advertising budget, after your $1 ad has been clicked 100 times, you are out of money, your ad is taken down until you add funds to your account, and if the clicks failed to generate much revenue to your business, you are now out $100. Of course the advantage of Google is the wider reach to a larger audience, but if Presearch continues to grow and gain in popularity, that advantage may be reduced over time.

Facebook? Works similar to Google. You set a maximum daily/weekly/monthly budget, and your ad competes with other ads for viewership, if your ad is clicked, that cost gets taken out of your budget. I expect the competition between advertisers is much stiffer than Presearch, but the advertising algorithms (which perform by exploiting your personal data - the very thing Presearch was built to combat) are probably more accurately targeted to the viewer.

PTC ads? Many options, often paid for in crypto. These are ads users view to earn crypto or points on any number of earning platforms that offer them. If you want to use a full banner ad for your advertisement, this may be a good option, but keep in mind your ad will only be viewed by a very specific demographic, and will run the risk of being overshadowed by other, flashier, newer, more attractive ads, or simply be ignored because of 'ad fatigue'. It also can't be targeted with specific keywords.

The key feature that differentiates Presearch, is that your PRE stake is just that - a stake. If you're not getting the number of clicks you want, you can stake to a different keyword at anytime, or just take down your stake and withdraw your tokens, and you won't be out any amount of money. This is a great way to test out different advertising strategies without spending a cent.

*Note: According to the Presearch staking tutorial on their site, they may consider instituting a pay per click system in the future, but promise users will get ample notice before that change takes place.

Have you tried keyword staking on Presearch? What were your results? I'd love to hear about your experiences and opinions in the comments.

By the way, I have now been staking "crypto blog" for just under 24 hours. In that time I have 6 views and 1 click. Not bad, but I'll take advantage of Presearch's flexibility, and continue trying other keywords too!
