Sigh... after so much time playing around on the internet with digital assets and smart contracts, one forgets how most of the world actually works! I had a bit of a shock when I was doing some stock market purchases a few years ago... I was surprised by the sluggishness of the archaic system, after coming from the always on and instantaneous cryptocurrency ecosystem!
Now, we are in the process of selling our house in the Netherlands to make preparations to return back to Australia. I vaguely remember that the purchase of a house was a bit of a pain in the arse, but that had mostly to do with mortgages and stuff like that. I had always figured that selling a house would be much easier... and I guess in some ways it is.... but it isn't like putting up the latest CryptoPunk on sale on OpenSea!
So, there are a million questions in a questionnaire about the house... most of which I can't really definitively answer anyway, so I'm left ticking the "no" or "unknown" box. Then there are the countless documents that are hidden in our filing cabinet somewhere... and given the state of our PHYSICAL filing... well, it is a poop to try and find all these things. I wish they were asking for digital stuff, as my digital organisation is really pretty decent.... but sadly, much of this stuff is still dead-tree forms and only accepted as dead tree, or scans of dead tree. I probably should have scanned these things a long time ago... a lesson to be learnt, and forgotten about tomorrow! (Actually, I am planning on scanning a whole heap of stuff, I don't want to risk too much loss if something goes wrong in the move!).
Of course, there is also the slight differences in translation that have me sometimes a little unsure. I often go with the logical thing... and given that most things aren't meant to be deliberately confusing (just accidentally confusing...) it most often works out.
There is also some KYC/AML that needs to be done... which is pretty hilarious! I had forgotten that these sorts of assets would have at some point been the principal way to launder money! Anyway, I'm pretty set up for the KYC stuff... so that was no problem, unfprtunatly, my wife isn't... so there was a bit of finding documents and scanning to be done. Hopefully, all of this will be done soon! We've gotten lucky in that we bought at the bottom of the housing market in the Netherlands, and we will be selling a peak (or a slope upwards!).
Next week, the photographer will be coming in to take pictures of the place... it will be a nightmarish thing to do I think. Most of the photos that I've seen look like magazine houses... with pretty much nothing except clean lines and surfaces. Ours... is definitely not like that! To put it kindly, we actually have a family living in our house... so, it isn't really magazine presentation quality! I would call it... non-sterile!
Anyway, that will be an adventure I guess... I just hope they don't expect us to move the pianos around too much!
Anyway, I'm done with scanning and searching for documents this evening... I'm going to spend the night out in our backyard in a tent with our girls. We are planning to wake up in the middle of the night to view the meteor shower! Wish us luck, it is going to be more fun than filling out house sale documents!
