In my days off between concerts and rehearsals... it appears that I'm a part-time gardener with a single client. Ourselves... or more to the point, my wife. And I don't get paid... hmmmm, I'm starting to think that I need to reassess this job...
... anyway, we have a couple of sick trees that we have gotten approval to take down. I'm pretty happy about that, and so are the neighbours... as the longer that they are up, the more rolls of the dice we have to see if they will end up coming down.
We now have a firm date for the tree felling after our first date got cancelled due to bad weather. Which means I had to get my arse in gear to remove the rocks and masonry and paving that we had stacked underneath the trees after we moved them there to make way for the rebuild of the drainage system. It starts to feel like much of what I'm doing is moving stuff from one end of the block to the other... and then several months later, moving it back.
But, before I got started on the rocks... there was the more pressing issue of piles of limbs and shrubbery from when my wife cleared the front side near the driveway and path. She really went to town on green guys, and so there is now quite a bit of stuff to shred up and spread out.
There was this little guy hanging around on one of the pieces... but my wife seems to have neglected to have told that one of the plants had lots of razer sharp thorns that would just rip straight through the gloves! I'm pretty sure that was an oversight... and not on purpose! I hope....
Ah... my friends... the rocks. So many wheelbarrow loads... and they are heavier than they look! Hilariously enough, when I'm with the musicians... they ask what I've been doing on the days off... moving rocks. I've said it often enough, that it has now become the expected answer!
And I've decided that underneath this pear/cherry/something fruity tree is going to be the temporary resting place for the rocks. From here, it is a short distance to the borders that we are making for the path. The larger ones will be needed for the little retaining section... but the little ones will be perfect for holding back the tree litter and mulch. But after the termite scare... we are starting to rethink the mulching plans.
Moving all the rocks also uncovered all the little critters that were hiding underneath minding their own business! A little skink was pretty startled (as was I....) when I lifted up the roof of their homes! Pretty well camouflaged though... he is right in the middle of the photo if you can't see the little guy!
