Honestly, we have a few too many keyboard instruments around at the moment... harpsichord, pianos, and fortepianos... well, some of those are definitely required for our work! In the longer term, we will eventually build out some sort of studio space for them... but for now, they are sharing our living room... which is actually no problem for me, but it does drive my wife nuts. Which is funny, because she is the one that the instruments belong to!
However, there is this electronic keyboard that is definitely taking up some unwelcome space. We first got it when we arrived back in Australia, and our keyboard instruments were backed up in Europe waiting for a plane to board. In those few months, my wife needed to access some sort of halfway decent instrument to be able to practice for concerts... and this was the interim solution that we had found... although not quite the same as a regular piano, it managed to serve its purpose.
After that, we kept it around as a MIDI input tool for MuseScore... but we have been wanting to get rid of it, and I have been asking around the nerdier (tech-wise...) of my colleagues for a recommendation for a small and compact replacement. And I did get a few suggestions, and I only just ordered it a couple of weeks ago... a bit of procrastination on my part, but also just fear that it would cost too much... but in the end it only cost on the order of 100 AUD.
... and as you can see from the photo above... it is a great deal smaller than that larger keyboard that it sits upon, and we will be able to reclaim that wall space for a bookshelf (which my wife and kids are building right now...).
As you can see, it is a cute little thing with only a couple of octaves and a switcher for when you need to go up and down octaves. It goes without saying that it isn't going to be a performance or practice tool for us... we have the old-fashioned acoustic things for that!
... but for data entry into MuseScore, my wife and I are much happier with a MIDI keyboard entry rather than the from the computer keyboard/mouse. It comes from being musicians I guess, and just harnessing our existing muscle memory rather than learning new ones!
So, a nice cute little thing... I don't do that much stuff in MuseScore, but it will be handy to have this little thing to do it with. I can also travel with it and better use my hotel time!
... and it will be nice to have the space back, and to have some of our music library (the dead wood kind...) in an easily accessible place again!
