It is really happening!

Well... it is really hard to believe that this day is actually here. Last night our family watched Encanto in our nearly empty house... whilst I constantly refreshed my email, hoping for the PCR tests to come through! After midnight, the results came through... yes, I really didn't sleep that much! These days, so much rests upon these tests... and they are so last minute that you don't really know if you are clear to fly or not until on the day of the flight!

Thankfully, we all received negative test results and so we are all clear to go. Following our experience with our Glasgow debacle where we missed the flight due to huge lines at security, check-in and passport control... we made sure to schedule our taxi for 6 hours before the flight. A touch of overkill... but this is definitely one flight that we CAN'T miss!

... little did we know that the days after Christmas are incredibly quiet! I was chatting with some of the security people (almost every one of our bags needed a manual check...), and they said that Christmas and Boxing Day are the crazily busy days... and the days in between Christmas and New Year are really quiet.

So... we have quite a few hours to kill here... but I think that that is much better than running breathlessly for a flight with kids and too much baggage in tow.

The morning was pretty damn hectic, with so much last minute farewells and packing (phew... the checked-in luggage was okay... and the hand baggage seems to be as well..). Then cleaning and a million trips to the bins... and then leaving a nice mural thing for the neighbours in the garage that they bought from us... run run run...

... when the taxi arrived, some of the neighbours turned out to farewell us. A really touching if more than a little teary.

However, this is going to be a pretty short post... bye to Netherlands, we had a great time here and we will miss it so much... but there is a time when we need to close a chapter in our lives and to start a new one. As I had mentioned before in a previous post, I'm looking forward to saying "Hi" to people instead of saying "Bye"... of future potential and happiness, rather than looking bad a feeling loss. We will of course stay in touch with our friends that we have made here... and I'm definitely looking forward to rediscovering new friends and family over in Australia.

Anyway... I had better stop writing and get back to cancelling subscriptions and utilities. All these things that we forgot to do... plus, I need to help my oldest with her logic puzzles! I remember doing these logic puzzles with my father, and so it is really nice to be able to do it with my children!

Do what you love and you'll never work a day in your life! I'm a Violinist and doing what I love is often interestingly contrasted with the reality of getting to do what I love...
