Bleah... Feeling Woozy!

So... I'm writing whilst feeling a little bit woozy and a touch sore in the under-parts. Today... at the end of the day, I had my little snip.... I had arrived on time at the clinic. This vasectomy can be done with local anaesthetic which makes everything a good deal cheaper if you don't have to go to a proper hospital surgery for the general anaesthetic... although, there was a moment when I had wished that I was out cold!

Anyway, in the days leading up to the procedure, I had no problem... just another thing to do and take in my stride. However, in the hour before... I suddenly was starting to wonder how risky this was! Of course, I knew in my critical head that the risks were low and that the female alternatives were both riskier and more prone to complications and so this was the most logically safe and effective route. Thankfully, my brother is a doctor, and so I quickly called him up to talk about it. So, reassured that everything was low risk... I was put at east, but not before my brother had a laugh about how blasé I was right up until the last hour! (Later, the doctor would tell me about people who did a runner from the room itself!).

So, I arrived on time... but given that this was an end of the day procedure, the doctor and clinic were running quite late... in the end, it was about 45 minutes behind time when we actually started. No problem for me, but my wife was picking up the kids from an activity and they would wait for me outside. And I had left my phone with my pants at the door!

This was supposed to be (according to the documentation that was given to me) a roughly 30 minute procedure... but it ended up taking the better part of 90 minutes! Combined with the late start and the incommunicado from me... well, it was starting to make my wife worry by the end!

So, having someone rummage around your underparts is always going to be a little bit weird... most men don't have to do it regularly, but I'm sure that our female readers will know all about it... go gentle on me, this was my first time of underside groping! Well... technically second if you count the consultation appointment from last week! So, a rapid learning curve for me!

So, all cleaned and prepped... with a very chatty doctor who ranged across a wide range of topics for the whole time! The worst part of it was just around the corner... and it wasn't the cutting! In fact, it was the injection of the local anaesthetic... oh boy, it is a lot more sensitive there than it would be in the gums when you are getting your wisdom teeth out! I had to stop talking for a bit to just grit my teeth and retreat into a happier place!

However, with that all done... it was just a matter of clamping, separating out the various nerves, tubes and blood vessels down there... and then snip... and then another snip!

Interestingly, one side was causing the doctor more problems than the other... Apparently, there was extra tissue growth around the tubes which made it a bit difficult for him to separate. He asked if I had ever been injured down there... I don't think so, but I guess that that is the sort of trauma that gets written over in your memories!

So, that had slowed him down quite a bit... but when it was all done, he sent me downstairs to get some reserve painkillers whilst he prepared the paperwork just in case things got a bit sore after the anaesthetic wore off. Weirdly enough, I felt a bit woozy going down the stairs... I didn't lose that much blood, but I do tend to be a bit sensitive to these medical things. Or perhaps, as my wife suggested, it was the fact that I hadn't eaten since breakfast... likely, more that!

I've been reading the post-procedure instructions. Apparently, I have to take tomorrow off... like crazy easy... just short little walks, and applying ice to prevent swelling (teehee...), and just doing very little in general. I do have a little background music gig in the evening... but that should be okay I think! It might actually please some of my fellow musicians that I will be a touch slower than normal!

Then the weeks afterwards, are gentle as well... but gradually more active each week until about four weeks... and after that, I can do heavy weightlifting again. Hmmmmm, I might give that a miss...

... but baby steps first.... rest up, take it easy... and generally feel sorry for myself, and eke out as much sympathy from my wife as possible! Teehee... maybe I will be allowed to have ice-cream in bed for breakfast?

Do what you love and you'll never work a day in your life! I'm a Violinist and doing what I love is often interestingly contrasted with the reality of getting to do what I love...
