"This high household savings rate shows a lack of confidence. HSBC top Asia economist Fred Neumann told the Financial Times that a near $1 trillion stimulus program is the "baseline." People don't want to spend.
"Shock and awe is sometimes appropriate," Neumann added. "There’s a risk that we’ve been so incremental over the past 18 months that every announcement doesn’t rebuild that confidence that we need."
