The board of directors at Microsoft has recommended that the company not vote on it, citing the fact that they currently "evaluate a wide range of investable assets," which includes Bitcoin.
A document that was submitted to the United States Securities and Exchange Commission discloses that shareholders of Microsoft are scheduled to vote in December on whether or not the technology giant should publicly evaluate the possibility of include Bitcoin on its balance sheet.
Microsoft reported in the filing that was made on October 24 that a "Assessment of Investing in Bitcoin" is offered to a subset of shareholders who will vote on the matter during a meeting that will take place on December 10.
The suggestion was advanced by the National Center for Public Policy Research (NCPPR), which highlighted the Bitcoin investing strategy of the business intelligence firm MicroStrategy and said that the company had beaten Microsoft by more than 300% this year "despite doing a fraction of the business" of Microsoft.
Additionally, it was said that the use of spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds by corporations and institutions is becoming increasingly "commonplace."
It was underlined by the research center that Bitcoin is still very volatile, but it has the potential to act as a hedge against inflation and rates on corporate bonds.
