Haru Invest fraud trial: South Korean crypto CEO stabbed in court

The CEO of a South Korean crypto business was repeatedly stabbed in the neck in Seoul court.

The victim was South Korean crypto-earning business Haru Invest CEO Hugo Hyungsoo Lee.

 

In the Haru Invest trial, three executives were accused of stealing $826 million in cryptocurrencies from 16,000 customers. Lee was beaten in court.

 

According to local media site Digital Asset, a 40-year-old Haru Invest victim suddenly sprang up from the guest seat and tried to stab Lee in the neck with a little knife. Lee went to the hospital immediately.

 

Haru Invest abruptly halted withdrawals on June 13, 2023. Delio, a depository and management business holding Haru Invest money, stopped withdrawals the next day.

Three Haru Invest executives were accused with stealing $826 million in digital assets from 16,000 consumers by South Korean authorities.

 

Lee was investigated for banning deposits and withdrawals in June 2024 for fraud.

 

In February 2024, South Korean authorities arrested three crypto yield platform officials, including the CEO.

 

The prosecution claims Haru Invest executives reinvested most client coins from March 2020 to June 2023, stealing them. Haru was misrepresented as a steady company utilizing “risk-free diversified investment techniques.” by the exes.

 

Before trial, Lee was freed from custody in July.

Physical assaults on digital assets are replacing cyberattacks and hacks as the primary concern for bitcoin investors.

 

Four Chinese nationals stormed into a gated mansion in Pathum Thani, Thailand, on Aug. 4 and demanded $2 million in cryptocurrencies.

 

A foreigner who held Bitcoin tickers down in Kyiv, Ukraine, was abducted by four guys in July.The perpetrators strangled the victim after transferring 3 Bitcoin to their wallets.

 

After three armed men invaded a London residence with machetes on June 17, compelling the owner to hand up 1,000 Ether tickers valued over $2.5 million. Lucky for the sufferer, no bodily injury occurred.
