Top $2B in 2025, $6.75B total for North Korea-linked crypto thefts

North Korea-linked hackers had their largest crypto heist year ever in 2025, proving that a few state-backed strikes may overwhelm even well-funded defenses.

In its Thursday Crypto Crime Report, Chainalysis reported that the industry lost more than $3.4B to theft from January to early December 2025, with Bybit's March compromise costing $1.5b.

The lower-bound cumulative estimate for DPRK crypto theft is $6.75B.
