MonkeyJump BananoGame Devlog 13.07.20

So, since I made my first game while learning to code last summer, I’ll keep it up this summer as well and release yet another game before fall. If I manage to do this every year, I figured it’s a great way to keep track of my progress. This summer I’ll create a game heavily inspired by Doodle-Jump – but as well as playing a fun game, you’ll get the chance to earn some Banano as well. I’ve put together some screenshots from the development so far below.

Game for the Banano community – release in early fall

For now, the UI starts to take shape. I didn’t bother spending too much time on the graphics, but it’s inspired by the footer from the official Banano website: banano.cc

The welcome screen is where you’ll be able to register, log in, or just straight up play the game. Registering will provide the ability to keep track of your high-score, while playing “as guest” just takes you to the game. If everything go as planned, I will add functionality for entering your banano-address to receive payment after ended game without the need to register.

My reason for making this is because I want to learn several new skills:

  • Making a game communicate with an external server
  • Learn to properly manage and maintain a Linux server remotely
  • Learn how to encrypt user information with hashes and salts
  • Run a Banano node for making payments to players with RPC calls
  • Learn different methods to counter cheating
  • Be more familiar with databases and how to properly use one
  • Properly use Git/Github
  • Use multiple programming languages together to achieve a single goal
  • Learn more about blockchain and how to develop applications for it

That’s quite a list in my opinion, but I’ve already come a long way to complete that list. At least in a manner that’s realistic for me at this point.

If I make it work and all goes to plan, I’ll try to make your MonKey show up as your avatar in-game, but for now that’s on the “good-to-have” list.

The Banano Community

Who knew cryptocurrency could be this fun?

Well, I had an idea. I love cryptocurrencies, and I love online wholesome communities. The Banano Discord server is the perfect blend. Friendly people, give-aways, joking around, tons of memes, and overall a positive, friendly atmosphere.

When I got this idea, my initial thought was to implement Nano into the game, reason being that it’s instant and feeless, perfect for a tiny game with tiny transactions. It’s better to learn how to walk before you try to run, so I was setting up a Discord server as a light-version to my game with Nano as the currency, because Discord got tons of bots to do that for you. While setting it up and researching Nano I stumbled upon Banano.

Banano is a fork of Nano. Since Nano is open-source, anyone who wants can copy the code and edit it to their own preferences. Entering Banano. Banano is also fee-less and instant, but on top of that, they already had a great Discord server, tons of memes, and a huge amount of fun. After joining the server and chatting for a few minutes, I scrapped the whole idea of creating my own server. There is no way I could ever dream of making a community from scratch like Banano already was. Banano would maybe be the latest generation Doge coin. Doge coin being a joke that gained massive popularity and is a well known crypto for everyone interested in the topic, as well as regular people without any real interest in the crypto space.

  • I’ll put some links below for anyone that -in the unlikely event of finding this blog- will find useful if you want to join the fun or learn more about Banano and cryptos in general.

Oh, and by the way, every banano address makes up a MonKey. Here’s one of mine:

The Changelog

This is my changelog, or blog if you will. I go by several names, but feel free to call me Pygo. I'm currently studying/working with game development. I want to post updates when some new feature or achievements are unlocked. That's what a changelog is for.
