Bitcoin ETFs just had their worst month since they were born

I've been staring at spot bitcoin ETF flow charts for about a hour now and june, june just would not stop bleeding.

Four point six billion dollars walked rite out the door in thirty days, the worst month these funds have posted since they opened four business back in January 2024, and I mean worst, not "kind of rough," WORST, the kind of number that makes analysts stop typing mid sentence and just stares at the screen for a minute, wondering if the feed is broke.

Here's the thing though, and its the thing nobody's really talking about proper. While BlackRock's IBIT was hemorrhaging something like three quarters of that total, close to $3 billion sliding out of the industry's largest fund, corporate treasuries kept right on buying, kept scooping up coins like the discount rack at a store that's closing down forever but somehow never actually closes.

Strategy, the company that used to answer to a different name before somebody in a boardroom decided the old one sounded to nineties, picked up 520 Bitcoin on june 22nd at an average price of $67,068 a coin, per its own regulatory filing.

That's not panic buying. That's not a company trying to catch a falling knife either, or maybe it is, who's to say really, but it sure dont look like retreat, and there is something almost absurd about watching one side of the market sprint for the exits while the other side walks in with a shopping cart, whistling.

Bitcoin's price fell below $60,000 during the month, touched a year to date low of $58,190, a decline that if you're keeping score sits close to 30% off where the year started, and that number alone should of made headlines everywhere, not just the crypto blogs that live and die by candlestick charts.

Meanwhile treasuries buy the blood, brokers cut and run, and the whole thing splits clean in two.

Dollars departing, dwindling, deeply confused, done, that's the rhythm of a fund bleeding out in real time, a kind of ugly little tune, coins fleeing gone too soon, and no one's clapping when the last one's flown.

The old outflow record was $3.56 billion, set back in February 2025, a number that stood for sixteen months like some tired monument nobody bothered to knock down, until june did it anyway, fourteen percent bigger and arriving on the heels of a thirteen day outflow streak that had already drained something like $4.4 billion before the calendar even flipped, which is the kind of detail that makes you realize the bleeding didn't start in june, it just got its paperwork stamped then, official, notarized, done.

What strikes me, rereading these flow tables at whatever hour this is, is that ETF wrappers and corporate balance sheets used to move together, in step, like they'd rehearsed it, and now they don't.

Now one buys while the other sells and both claim to believe in the same asset.

Which, fine. Maybe thats just what a market figuring itself out looks like from the inside: ugly, unsettled, and completely unwilling to agree with itself. The market dont care about your narrative.

It bleeds when it bleeds, and nothing in these numbers, not one single data point, tells you where bitcoin goes from here. It just tells you who blinked first this month.
