Today it came out that SpaceX and the US military were ready to take their relationship to the next level. A huge development is that the United States Air Force is preparing to test linking military aircraft to the Starlink Constellation. This if it works could be huge for the development of the Constellation. If it works as well as it has been hyped up to the military itself could begin to fund construction and lunches of these satellites to give it a backup network in case of something happening to their own satellites.
Unlocking US military funding would be crazy and could lead to the civilian population getting Starlink service even faster than SpaceX is currently planning on rolling it out. It could really serve as a supercharging moment for the development and rollout of these internet connections. Further sidelining both OneWeb and Amazon with their satellite hopes.
SpaceX also this week won a pair of Pentagon Contracts for two launches by the end of 2023 so sometime within the next 2 and a half years. What caught my attention with these launches was the cost as $159.7 million for 2 Falcon 9 launches is quite a bit of money.... SpaceX has been lower the cost of there launches consistently so the price caught me off guard.
One of the reasons for a price this high could be two fold. It could be the Pentagon wants a new Falcon 9 to launch the payload into orbit and that would have to be specially set up. It also could be that they are launching into geostationary orbit
