I am the first to say that I am new to Washington, DC, and growing up in the South has really instilled a different set of values and ideas in me. As a quick side note psychologists actually have a name for this and it is the Culture of Honor. If you ever are bored and interested in reading about the different cultures especially between the south and the rest of the United States I would suggest giving that a quick look!
However, there are just some things that are just odd that I do not understand about this city! Two days ago I was sitting in my apartment when I realized that police were swarming the freeway right by my apartment. I mean they were literally driving on the opposite side and naturally I assumed it was something like a car wreck and this was the quickest way to the scene. That idea rapidly changed when I also saw them blocking off the roads underneath and running next to the freeway.

As you can see from this photo there are a ton of cops yet not only is the area not fully marked off yet but there are people walking right on by with their dogs.

Here is a photo I took a little bit later that shows the vehicle in question that was pulled over..... it is surrounded by the police officers.....
While I did not see the full thing that led to this I can tell you it was 110% crazy and in no way normal. In the first photo, you might have seen that next to two police officers in the intersection there is something on the ground. I kid you, not people were walking just a couple of feet away from a firearm laying on the ground. From what I really put together either a police chase or the car was pulled over. At that point, the person tried to get rid of the firearm by chunking it from the overpass INTO THE INTERSECTION BELOW!

I waited a few days to write about this because I hate to say it I expected to find something about this in the news but there has not been a single thing. I mean in the Navy Yard part of Washington, DC there has been a huge issue with carjackings and people getting mugged with this part of the city reopening. Yet somehow a guy getting arrested and throwing a gun with an extended clip into an intersection below does not make news at all and people I talked to about it who have lived here for a while treated it like a typical Tuesday thing. I have no clue how this is not ABNORMAL to people and Texas is known for people carrying guns so its not like I am not used to them but this is entirely different!
