While work this week did not start off as I had hoped over the course of the week that has changed. Some things though are hard to get used to on Capitol Hill. In the morning showing up to work you see a couple of National Guard members but for the most part, it is covered in Capitol Hill and Metro PD. At night though the Hill turns into a whole different animal. Floodlights are brought in and National Guard squads are patrolling around the Hill. At any given entrance through the unscalable fence, you have a minimum of 10 fully armed and decked out National Guard members.
Personally to me, this is bizarre and really hard to understand that this is America right now. It's not what it was just a few weeks ago. People are much quicker to get defensive and dig their heels in. No one seems to want to work together or compromise. Constituents calling are mad and it is something that is hard to deal with when you answer your 50th call about how the Hose of Rep member you work for voted when you yourself also do not know. Republicans did the same thing that the Democratic Party has also done with a secrete ballot. That is actually how the Democratic House held their committee elections when AOC was handed a resounding defeat.
I cannot believe how quickly the whole landscape has changed. I have only been here a little over a month and you can feel it I have seen it and it is still hard to wrap my head around. Watching what happened on the 6th further confused me as I really began to wonder what was happening to my country. Sadly, the promises of President Biden and the Democratic Party..... they do not show a sign of even remotely following their own words. Division continues to be sown by both sides with neither being the bigger person and constitutes across the nation seemingly following in these people paths. Tomorrow could be a very rough day phone wise with the Majorie Taylor Greene bill that passed today. It will be something that really will divide people.
