We are the ones who handle everything outside a scene. We are the ones with the flashing wands, cones and signs that close roads. Send people on detours and keep the public out of the way of Fire, Police and EMS. We make sure that the personnel do not have to worry about unwanted people in the scene risking their own lives or that of personnel. We handle the rudeness, name calling, and dangers of people who want to go where they want to regardless of the danger to themselves or others. Our Duty, Our Oath is to protect the emergency personal AND the public. We are sometimes tasked with staying at a scene after the personnel has left. Most of us are former firefighter, EMS or police. We have some of the same skills that police, fire and EMS have. We are also called upon to help personnel if man power is lacking. We are called Special Fire Police because we don’t have just one skill. We can help save a life, help put out fires, help police with crime scenes, handle crowds and parades. We are the unseen assets of all scenes. And like all others on scene, we are there for a job, we do not get paid and our duty is to protect and serve.
