Helium Network a decentralized network for the Internet of Things ( IoT ) now has 982,000 hotspots ( nodes ) participating on the network in 187 countries and 76,000 cities.
According to Statista Research Department it is estimated by 2025 that 30.9 billion IoT devices will be in use. Many of these devices will be using LoRaWan technology and Helium Network is the largest LoRaWan network in the world.
If you are reading this article you are probably already familiar with the Helium Network but what you may not be aware of is who is using it.
This article highlights five real world use cases ( one futuristic ) that bring utility to crypto and to the Helium Network.
Dronedek’s Mailbox of the Future
Designed to accept drone delivery, the DRONEDEK mailbox also accepts traditional mail delivery. The device keeps packages hot or cold, will alert users to package arrival and recharge drones. An app controls when the device is opened for delivery and retrieval and alarm features.
While drone delivery will increase efficiency, lower costs, raise convenience and speed, that only solves half of the equation. To complete the final-mile solution you must have a safe, secure, and weatherproof receptacle, that is capable of holding your packages and notifying you of their delivery (or pickup). Dronedek completes the last-mile solution through its smart mailbox, app-driven solution.
In November 2021 the company announced that DRONEDEK will use the LongRange (LoRa) Helium network for its lower bandwidth sensors instead of relying on cellular networks.
Decentralized Mapping with Hivemapper
Hivemapper is building the world’s first crypto-enabled dashcam that lets you earn rewards for driving which is part of the larger drive to earn trend. The Hivemapper network launched in November, just before 2023 started.
The Hivemapper dashcam transforms your vehicle into a Google Street View car so you can get paidHelium Network : Is it Still Profitable to Mine HNT in 2023 ? to drive. As users drive, they are rewarded with HONEY tokens. The footage that’s collected builds a crowdsourced version of Google Street View that is then sold to businesses who can benefit from up-to-date mapping technology.
As drivers collect 4k street imagery as they drive it is critical that the location data that is collected is trusted. Helium enables Hivemapper to validate the location of a dashcam in two ways. The location of the Helium access point and the list of access points that the Hivemapper Dashcam sees as it travels down a route.
Binary Beer : The Internet of Beer
Binary Beer uses KegLink an attachable IoT tracking device that has a battery life of up to 5 years to track kegs from brewery to bar. Location, temperature and movement are all tracked by attaching a simple device to the keg. After all no one likes a skunked beer !
In May 2022 Binary Beer partnered with the Helium Network to help craft beer brewers accurately track and monitor inventory across the draught beer industry.
Careband : A solution for residential dementia care
Wandering is a symptom often associated with dementia that can put patients at great risk and be very concerning for family and caregivers. Careband is a simple wearable IoT device that enables patient location tracking.
Careband’s CEO Adam Sobol stated, “So much of what we are doing today is possible because of them [Helium] and The People’s Network. Together, we are giving employers, administrators, and caregivers the much-needed tools they need to help protect their teams, students, and loved ones.”
Equilibrium : Automate your car wash
Up to 30% of car wash employee time is spent on repetitive, manual checking of multiple systems. This sounds mundane but it is necessary to make sure there is not lost revenue. There is a better way with IoT ! Equilibrium Point IoT increases your uptime and wash quality by constantly monitoring your car wash for you.
“Our mission is aligned with that of Helium, we’re thrilled to be doing our part in building The People’s Network,” said Lucas Merrow, CEO of Equilibrium Point, “In the same way, we want to extend IoT technologies across the large network of dedicated workers and industrial business owners to transform the way business is done.”
