In 2015 Lili Trifilio began Beach Bunny as a solo project and stage name. The project soon expanded to a four-piece band in 2017 adding guitarist Matt Henkles, Johnathan Alvarado on drums, and Aiden Cada on bass. The 2018 release of their EP "Prom Queen" saw the title track explode into a hit as it became a viral trend on TikTok. In 2020 they released their first full length album "Honeymoon" to critical acclaim, with The New York Times and Rolling Stone both placing it on their Best Albums of 2020 list.
The ride for Beach Bunny seems to have been a pretty good one so far and it only looks to be getting better with the release of their most recent EP - "The Blame Game"
The song I present for your consideration today is "Love Sick", a power-pop indie bop. The song is an exploration of the stomach turning ups and downs of falling in love, falling apart, and falling for it all over again. The staccato intro verse sets a playful tone but quickly bursts into a chugging hard-not-to-sing-along-to chorus, sure to please anybody who's felt the sting of love lost.
The sound harkens back to the early days of girl rock when we had bands like No Doubt rocking the scene. If you're a fan that 25-years-ago sound and aesthetic then you'll feel right at home and maybe more than just a little nostalgic.
If you're already a fan of Beach Bunny sound off in the comments and let me know some of your favorite tunes. If there's any other music you'd like me to check out to potentially get it's own "Songs I love" submission feel free to share. I'm always looking for new music.
Stay cool.
