Where In The World Is Snarf?
Okay so that is a very good question, actually. I know quarantine has everyone all messed up lately and that is true for me as well. However, there is a bit more to the story than that. So for those of you that are ready to hear a random story about how I went through emergency surgery then follow along!
Ah yes, Friday. A normal day for me to be at work. A lovely 12 hour shift. Or so I thought.
I work in a warehouse environment as a Supervisor. It is a nice mix between physical and clerical work. I had been sitting at my desk for a few hours at a time doing electronic work. I needed to get up and use the restroom and when I did I had a sharp and extreme pain on the right side of my groin. Ummm... Okay that is concerning since I really had no reason to have pain in the region of my person! I stuck out the pain and waited until after my work shift to go to an Urgent Care to have myself looked at. Sure enough I did have a lot of swelling and heat in that part of my body. Super suspect! Urgent Care took a look and prescribed me some powerful antibiotics, slapped me on the but (figuratively), and sent me on my way.

I woke up for work and still had some slight pain and discomfort, but I figured it was just residual from the previous day. Besides, they told me the antibiotic would take about 3 days to have an affect on me. I stuck it out and went into work. Again, I was doing office work for a few hours and then needed to stand up and that is when the pain become unbearable. I could no longer walk normally and I was starting to become sick from the pain.
Queue me freaking out and leaving work and rushing home! By the time I got home I could no longer walk or drive. I called my parents to come get me and take me to the Emergency Room. Within the first 15 minutes of being at the ER I was told that I would be going under the knife! I have never had any type of surgery, especially an emergency surgery before! So, as any anxious millennial would do, I freaked out and became hysteric (it was not a good look for me).
After that, I do not remember much of the day because all the GOOD GOOD (aka pain killers) started to enter my IV and put me into a much more comfortable state. All I do remember is waking up in my hospital room and have a giant gaping hole in my groin where they cut my open.
I came to find out that I had what is called "Necrotizing Fasciitis". This is literally a flesh eating bacteria. It sounds gross, but let me explain my case here, guys!!! My immune system has been complete crap lately due to stress and other issues. This allowed for pretty much even the smallest bacteria to get into my body wreck me completely.
I was taught how to take care of my open wound, how to pack it with wet gauze, and what mobility I would have. Basically, I was going to be out of commission for a good two weeks. Yuck! Not what someone who is really into going to work wants to hear. But alas, I returned home on Monday and obeyed all orders to ensure proper healing.
Long Story, Short
I was at work, I developed a flesh eating infection, I learned proper wound care, and I am alive to tell the tale! What all have you guys been up to? Let me know in the comments!
