Carmarthen Bay Film Festival, the highly successful BAFTA Cymru, BAFTA and IMDb Qualifying Festival, is now in its 13th year and already has its sights on becoming an Oscar Qualifying Festival in the next 5 years.

Founded by Kelvin Guy in 2012, CBFF has grown from just 35 submissions in its first year to now regularly receiving over 750 films from over 65 countries around the world.

Each year filmmakers attend the festival held in Llanelli, Carmarthenshire; flying in from the US, Canada, Australia, Holland, Italy and France to name a few, as well as coming from all over Wales and the UK.  CBFF’s list of festival partners includes well known Welsh brands such as Celtic Wines, Coaltown Coffee, Mari Thomas jewellers, Barti Spice, Wales Interactive, Oriel Mimosa Gallery, The Cawdor Hotel and University of Wales Trinity St. David. The festival and its Awards Gala are also covered each year on S4C’s Heno.

The festival has been BAFTA Cymru qualifying for over five years, which has meant that any film screened during the festival that has a connection to Wales is eligible to enter the BAFTA Cymru Awards the following year.  CBFF is also now a BAFTA Short Film Qualifying Festival, helping to open the doors to all eligible UK short films screened during the four days of the festival.

The Carmarthen Bay Film Festival is held each May at the Ffwrnes Theatre, one of Wales’ premier theatres based in the centre of Llanelli and can also be seen online through its Sparqfest online platform – www.cbff.sparqfest.live.  Access to all screenings both online and in-person is free.  This commitment ensures that the very best of Welsh and international independent film-making reaches as wide an audience as possible and allows CBFF to fulfil its guiding motto; ‘Excellence Should Be Seen On Screen’.
