Gasoline is Power, Power will Cost you
I don't know where you live in the world but please tell me that the gasoline price is better where your live. I am not even considering exchange rates nor economies of size at this moment, but I am proposing that dollar to dollar purchasing parity. I live on an island of 166 square miles literally an island that can fit in some US and European Cities. Tourists come here all the time and they are so amused and awestruck by the beauty, usually, ecological beauty. I mean I guess tourism is our bread and butter so as to speak but I think we could do better and become a smart island or something and engage more of the technological projects around the world. We are certainly of a small enough size to run an internet of things project. Anyway, before I am further distracted by the plethora of thoughts that are flying through my head as I take a break from my work; let me tell you a very short story.
I left home with my son this morning to take him to school, he is 13 soon to be 14 by the way and we left the house about 625AM hopped in my semi hot hatch, prayed and then began our journey. I stopped to collect another youngster who goes to school near my son's school and then I collected a friend who I give a lift to work. Anyway, I was listening to the radio around 630am when the morning news came on and the first thing the presenter said was that the cost of gasoline was going up by 12 cents in Barbadian currency that would be 6 cents in USD. To be honest, I said Lord again? I then proceeded to look at my gas tank and realised that I was only at 1/4 tank and I had missed out on filling the tank the night before the increase. I was a little upset with myself. The cost of gasoline before the prices increase was 4.08 per litre and it is now 4.20 per litre. My Nissan Note has a 41 litre tank so you do the math and with the trips I do I can see that something gotta give... do you remember that show?

I literally watched the gas level all the way to my various stops and back to work and NOW I am heading back on the road again to collect my son from school. Well I just got back from the school run which is about 30 minutes and now the display that tells me how many kilometres I have left has stopped registering. The Christmas lights are also on and I drover straight back to work after dropping him off home. I didn't put in gas because it is currently 35 degrees celsius and I see fumes of gasoline that should be going into my tank fleeing away in the air. I will put in gasoline when outside is cooler, every 3% -5% of tank filling efficiency counts. The Nissan note is very good on gas though I must say but the government has to do something about these gas prices. Do you know what I just remembered? The government taxes us via gasoline so if they increase the cost of petrol, they receive bigger bags and we really can't live without using a vehicle or can we ? I could
Just so you know, the answer is not electric cars either because those cost an arm and a leg in my part of the earth, plus electricity is expensive in my island any way and then car chargers are not plentiful either and takes forever to charge. I have also heard of people who had to replace batteries and those prices sound nightmarish, not only that but I have heard some electric cars burst into flames on impact when involved in an accident, I would like to know more about that. A lady I know had to pay 11K dollars to replace her hybrid Toyota Corolla battery...insane. Do you know what I could do with 11K? I could repair several areas of my roof, change windows and retile my bathroom.
I could probably ride to work some times or may be catch a bus but then that would mean I would have to take a camping bag and a change of clothes, the buses are horrible. A car is not only a convenience, it is essential. I guess I will have to do some shifting around of the budget and hope that there is not a general price rise across the board and make it to the next pay day and do the same thing I am doing today, struggling to make ends meet. Hey, I am not the first person to be in this situation and certainly I will not be the last and I have much to be thankful for. I just needed to get that one off the chest. Death is Easy, Living is Hard.
