#4 🔸Progress on your terms: how to break free from comparison without stopping your growth

By luciman | SelfInvest | 30 Jul 2025

Have you ever felt proud of a step you took… until you saw what someone else achieved?

Felt a genuine sense of joy for a small win – only to mentally cancel it out when comparing it to someone else’s “level”?

I’ve been there too. Sometimes I still am.
But I’ve learned something essential: comparison isn’t just useless – it’s draining and deceptive.

We’re often tempted to measure our progress through external metrics: money, body, achievements, boxes ticked.
But everyone’s life has its own unique context. Its own rhythm. Its own limits and resources.

It’s like comparing two different books by page count.
Or judging two seasons by temperature. It simply doesn’t make sense.

I went through a phase where I constantly felt behind.
I saw people “succeeding” faster, louder, seemingly better.

Then one day, I realised I was evaluating myself using a ruler that wasn’t mine.
I was watching different journeys and forgetting to check where I was, in relation to myself.

That’s when I started building a personal reference system. Not perfect. But honest.

What helped me:

  • Redefining what progress means based on my life right now

  • Keeping a “growth journal” where I note down small wins, without comparison

  • Reminding myself that other people’s pace isn’t a threat – it’s an illusion. I don’t see their full path.

Here on SelfInvest, we’ve already explored silence, clarity, and integration.
Today’s about a deeper step: reclaiming your compass.
To move forward not because of pressure, but guided by personal truth.

🔸A question to reflect on

If you couldn’t see what “the world” was doing… what would progress look like for you this month?

If the reflections on SelfInvest resonate with you, stick around.
We’re writing this journey together – not to get “higher”, but to feel well where we are.

I believe in personal growth as a continuous journey — especially on a psychological, financial, and broader human level. What I share here comes from direct observations and real-life experiences — both my own and those of people around me.
