Sirius, the brightest star in the sky, has a magnitude of -1.47.
It has a diameter that is approximately 1.89 times that of the Sun and a distance from our parent star of 8.6 light years. Some planets such as Jupiter, Mercury, Mars or Venus may appear brighter than Sirius at certain times, but they are still celestial bodies much closer to the Earth than the same taken into consideration. In the absence of moonlight, it is able to cast a slight shadow even of the objects present on our planet, despite the frightening distance that would take us more than 8 and a half years to reach it, at the speed of light.
