Here's What April's Most Active ERC-20 Dapps Have Been Working On

Hi Publish0x! I'm Dino from Santiment. I'm still very new to the site but I look forward to sharing the latest news and updates about our project along with crypto market research done by our team. Please write to me if you have any tips about using Pubish0x better.

If you're not familiar with Santiment, we're an ERC-20 project that specializes in clean and reliable crypto data and indicators (we collect on-chain, social and development data for 1000+ projects) and custom research and analysis about the crypto market. Our data and platform are used by traders, investors, exchanges, academia and crypto projects themselves.

In this first post, I wanted to share something that we just published the other day. Each month, we shine a spotlight on the 10 ERC-20 projects with the highest-recorded development activity for the past 30 days, as calculated by Santiment. We then reach out to all 10 projects and source a quote from the team about what they've been working on lately that contributed to their elevated development activity. We found it to be a great way for the community to stay up to date with the busiest BUIDLers on Ethereum in a single post each month.

Development Activity is an often underrated indicator of project success, because it demonstrates the team's month-to-month commitment to creating a working product, continuously polishing and upgrading its features, and staying true to the long-term roadmap.

Snapshot of April's top 10 ERC-20 projects by dev activity, from app.santiment.net

Also - this month, we've done things a bit differently. Our previous Top 10 lists considered all projects with working ERC-20 tokens – even those that have already moved away from Ethereum and building on their own mainnet, or those in the middle of a token swap. This time around, we decided to focus only on ‘pure ERC-20’, i.e. those projects that are (currently) committed to developing on Ethereum, and have as of yet no working mainnet or an imminent token swap.

You can check out the latest dev activity ‘power rankings’ for all ERC-20 assets ('pure' and not) on SANbase, by filtering the ERC-20 projects by Dev Activity (30d).

This month’s list is particularly special for us because Santiment made the top 10 for the first time this year! You'll find out below what bumped us to #5 by dev activity for the whole month of April.

Anyway, we asked all of April’s top 10 most active ERC-20 dapps what they’ve been working on for the past month. Here’s what they told us:

1. Storj

Storj provides private and secure decentralized cloud object storage

"This month was a major one for the team at Storj, as we released our Vanguard Alpha, which allows developers to programmatically interface with the new V3 network. In addition, we released the Go library for Libuplink. This is a simple developer library that you can import into your codebase to enable you to interact with the network. If you want more details on the library, take a look at the godoc and read through this walkthrough.

Along with the Vanguard release, we made several enhancements to our Satellite web interface, which gave it the polished look, feel, and functionality we wanted. We will continue to iterate and make changes to the web interface to add additional functionality in future releases.  For more information around Satellites, and how they function on the network, check out this post from last week. To get access to the web Satellite, sign up for our developer waitlist and check out mars.tardigrade.io.

We also released a teaser around pricing for the upcoming V3 network, that looks at how cloud storage prices have stagnated for the past 5 years, in spite of falling hard drive prices, and how decentralized cloud storage is changing that.

On the storage node side, we updated our documentation with a command that will automatically update your storage node for you when we push a new Docker container to Docker Hub. This is the best way to ensure your storage node stays up to date and connected to the network.

We launched tardigrade.io. This is where developers and partners looking to purchase cloud storage will go to secure SLA-backed cloud storage on the Storj network.

Finally, our next major release, Beacon, will add features around identity and access management control, and will contain a Macaroon library so that we can start implementing object access control/ sharing."

2. Status

Status is an open source mobile Dapp browser and messenger built for Ethereum

"A look back at the last month of activity at Status. We have been focusing on the beta release 0.12.0 which includes the following:

  • V1 of Discover – A standalone react web app (https://dap.ps/) which delivers an SNT based curation mechanism for listing and discovering DApps.

The team has also been making progress on other SNT Utility features which will be available in later releases:

  • MVP of Tribute to Talk – An anti-spam mechanism, which enables stakeholders to set a minimum amount of SNT that must be paid in order for someone outside their network to contact him/her directly.
  • Sticker Market – A fun and engaging feature which allows users to buy and use stickers in chat using SNT. Contracts are currently in third party security audit
  • Teller Network & Network incentivization research and development as means to introduce to further SNT utility into Status as defined by the White paper
  • Messaging protocol research – progress on data sync layer with early specifications and requirements."

3. Augur

Augur is a decentralized oracle and peer to peer protocol for prediction markets

"Over the last month the Augur development team has been tackling two major initiatives:

First, the UI development and Design teams have been implementing and polishing complete re-design of the Trading interface, users’ Portfolio summaries, and creating a smooth new UX built around notifications for the Account page. Just this week, this huge amount of work encompassing over 400 Github Issues has been brought into the mainline code of the UI, and is now available to test out at http://try.augur.net.

Alongside this endeavor, the Contracts and Backend teams have been working on a complete overhaul of the system leading up to Augur V2. Recently, the bulk of our V2 contract changes have been completed, and an overview of all of the Protocol changes can read on our recent blog post. This work is paired with a brand new middleware architecture, aimed at bringing fast, consistent access to the Augur markets from any modern web browser."

5. Santiment

Santiment is a platform for advanced crypto analytics and curated market insights

It’s been a busy month for Santiment, and we’re very excited to see us make the top 10 for the first time this year! As you might know, we just announced our biggest data integration to date: Bitfinex, one of the world’s largest exchanges, has implemented our on-chain, social and development data for BTC, ETH, ERC-20 coins and more to their trading platform!

This project was a massive undertaking and included a tight-knit collaboration effort between ours and the Bitfinex backend team, as evident by our positioning on this month’s list. And yet, this is only the first step, as we plan on integrating many more of our custom metrics and WIP features to the Bitfinex platform in the near future!

In the meantime, we have also released a new set of on-chain metrics to SANgraphs – our platform for advanced crypto analytics – including 6 exchange-specific charts and indicators that let you filter our existing on-chain data by each individual exchange. Additional metrics are already in the pipeline and will be hitting SANgraphs soon, so be sure to follow us for updates!

A lot of work this month has also gone into the upcoming signals and alerts based on our on-chain and social metrics. We’ve already released a few beta signals on our Discord channel, tho the final product is set to include a variety of additional features, including the ability to link and combine different on-chain and social indicators developed by Santiment.

Finally, we’ve dedicated time this month to improving the mobile-friendliness of our main site as well as SANbase, optimizing both the look and mobile performance of our flagship product. Visit SANbase on mobile to try it for yourself!

6. Golem

Golem is creating a decentralized sharing economy of computing power

"Golem’s been business as usual, we have been working quite hard on our WASM usecase, which is set to be integrated into the 0.20.0 release testnet. We are also focusing efforts on Unlimited, and its Brass integration.

Moreover, as you might know, we launched the working group with ITL, Intel, and the original researchers from the project Graphene. We are working to deliver a production-grade solution for application portability, security, and data integrity – at this stage directed towards decentralized use-cases.

We are now hoping to finalize QA, and final touches for the upcoming major release, and looking into more use-cases to integrate into our software."

7. Kyber Network

Kyber is an on-chain liquidity protocol that aims to enable seamless transactions between platforms

  • "Along with our new website, the Kyber protocol paper was released, formalizing Kyber as a liquidity protocol that can be implemented on any smart contract-enabled blockchain to power on-chain token swaps in decentralized applications. In addition, Waterloo Bridge was introduced as a decentralized relay bridge between EOS and Ethereum.
  • Kyber‘s Developer Portal documentation was reorganized to make integration and providing liquidity as a token reserve more straightforward. KyberWidget was also updated, making it even easier for projects such as CoinGecko and Coinplan to embed seamless token swaps and payments directly on their website or platform. KyberSwap.com launched 3 new features – Mobile iOS app, Price Alerts and Margin Trading via Nuo."

8. Maker

Maker is building a decentralized stablecoin collateralized by crypto and governed by the community

"Our main focus has been working toward the next Kovan Test release for Multi-collateral Dai, which with the most recent update included:

  • A first look at our new MCD CDP Portal
  • Ability to play around with ETH as well as five test collaterals
  • Updates to our dai.js library so partners can easily integrate Dai and CDPs in their projects

In addition, our Oracles v2 are already out on Mainnet, being used by Set Protocol. These Oracles will be widely implemented with Multi-collateral Dai."

9. Polymath

Polymath is a blockchain protocol for launching security tokens

"We are excited that development on Polymath 3.0 was completed in April. This release is now being audited by the Consensys Diligence team and slated for release at the end of Q2.

Polymath 3.0 includes full support for the ERC-1400 library of standards, self-sovereign upgradability modules and tokens, several new modules delivering additional transfer restrictions and capital distribution functionality and optimisation of costs to deploy and manage security tokens."

10. Loom

Loom is a Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) network targeting decentralized social app and game development

"The Loom team has been hustling over the past few months! A major focus has been around staking and onboarding external validators to PlasmaChain mainnet. We initially launched the PlasmaChain staking dashboard, which allows any LOOM holder to delegate their tokens to help secure the network and earn rewards in return.

Since then, we released several feature enhancements and support for mobile staking, so delegators can stake directly from their mobile wallets (such as imToken and Cobo). To make that possible, we built out Universal Transaction Signing, which means PlasmaChain can verify and accept transactions signed by native Layer 1 wallets. So far, 18 external validators are now live on the network and 185M+ tokens have been staked, which amounts to around 24% of the circulating supply (and ~$11M in value).

We’ve also been focused on several interoperability initiatives. First, we integrated the top 100 ERC20 tokens on PlasmaChain, adding support for payments in 6 major stablecoins. Additionally, we’ve kicked off integrations with several other major blockchains to make PlasmaChain a universal layer 2 hub. We are building out token bridges to EOS, TRON, and Cosmos (with more to come) to give the developers building on Loom seamless access to the largest pool of users with the least friction possible.

Finally, we released the Loom Marketplace (a DEX for blockchain-based game items) and the alpha version of our flagship game, Relentless (formerly known as Zombie Battleground)."

Thank you once again to all the projects for sharing their April dev updates with us. Here’s to another great month of BUIDLing.
