Instead, we ended up with a fragmented ecosystem where users are forced to act like network engineers just to swap a token.
Here is why the current L2 landscape is creating more friction than freedom, and what needs to change.

### 1. The Liquidity Fragmentation Problem
In a monolithic blockchain, all liquidity sits in one giant pool. On L2s, liquidity is chopped up into dozens of isolated islands.
* **Deeper Slippage:** A token pool on Arbitrum might have deep liquidity, while the same pool on Optimism or Base suffers from heavy slippage.
* **Inefficient Capital:** Market makers have to split their capital across multiple networks, making yield farming and trading less efficient overall.
