Drink Review: Liquid Death x Pop-Tarts Carnage

Hello fellow P0x'ers and welcome to the inaugural edition of drink reviews. On today's post, I will be giving my brutally honest opinion on the latest "limited edition" from Liquid Death.

What is Liquid Death?

No, these drink won't actually kill you. I guess you can say the name is pretty misleading. But once you take a close look at the can, it's referring to the idea of "murder your thirst." And the company also touts "death to plastic," by packaging its drinks in more recyclable-friendly aluminum cans. The concept for the brand arose from the 2008 Warped Tour, when LD founder Mike Cessario learned from performers that the energy drinks they were drinking were actually just filled with water. The brand first started with still water sold in its iconic "tallboy" skull cans, then expanded into sparkling water, and eventually iced tea and energy drinks.

Pop-Tarts Carnage

The Pop-Tarts Carnage comes in a 12 fl oz can, donned with a graphic of the iconic Liquid Death skull atop what appears to be a strawberry flavored Pop-Tart. It is from the iced tea line and contains 43 mg of caffeine. They make it a point to say that it's natural caffeine; from green tea if you inspect the ingredients list closely. It all sounds pretty good.

Upon first sip, there is an overpowering taste of strawberry. It definitely tastes like a strawberry Pop-Tarts, encapsulating the frosting taste and all. I wouldn't say it's bad, but it is a bit overwhelming. I wouldn't buy another pack of these; I just had to try it for myself. For me, the flavour was just a bit too much. But, like I said, it's just like a strawberry iced tea. Maybe that's up your alley.

I do like the caffeine; it's not overpowering but it's just enough to give a nice little kick.

The Verdict

I rate the Liquid Death Pop-Tarts Carnage a 5/10

Final Thoughts

I do like the crossover aspect of this product. As a kid who ate a lot of Pop-Tarts, they hooked me! I think they knew the exact demographic they were targeting with this product. I do, however, think that the blueberry flavour would have done better, as far as a flavoring for an iced tea. At any rate, Liquid Death Pop-Tarts Carnage is not a complete miss but it's not a hit either.
