Upland has a good idea, in theory and that is where it stops. The concept with this app, is that it had digitalized a real-world location, such as a city in Tennessee. As a user, you are given a small amount of currency and then you use that currency to purchase these digital plots of land, which represent real plots of land, in real life. You can then rent or sell these plots to make more money and then buy more land.
Pros:
*Buying and selling of digital assets based on the real world.
Cons:
*Since the game has been out for a while now, any new user will find that the older users have bought up everything already.
*Any non-owned properties are too expensive to buy with the starting currency, requiring you to pay FIAT currency for the digital one to use, in game.
I tried this game/app and thought it was interesting at first. The idea, similar to Sandbox, is a very cool idea. Much like the Matrix or Tron, taking our real world and turning it into a digital one, brings new ideas to how the future can be accessed. In the conceptual idea area, people could advertise or rent out advertising space, in their digital property. However, when I tried to join earlier this year, there was only one city available and EVERY property in that city was already purchased. This meant that the only way I could buy a property, was to pay real money to get the in-game money. I like the idea: I do. But maybe people who own real world property, could already own their in game property as well? The lack of the ability for new users to buy anything in game, means that this game is basically just a gatekeeper for the rich or early users. This would be like anyone who bought Bitcoin at $1, back in 2013 and compare them to someone who wants to buy one today at $28,000. While there is an old saying of "The early bird gets the worm"; this saying applies to Upland. Upland though continues to advertise this game to new users, knowing full-well that all of the worms have already been eaten. Eventually, I would think that Upland would run out of space and not have enough paying users. They wouldn't be able to support the game or servers and then it would die, like so many other apps. You don't get anything out of this app either. You don't get useless NFT's like other pay to play games and you don't get useless crypto like other digital sandbox games. I tried it, didn't like it, but I'm not telling you not to try it. Give it a try.
