Happy Worker
By Shelley M. Latreille

Leave the office…
Work from home.
Thoughts become your words and your only form of communication.
Others forget to communicate information because,
from their perception, you are deceased and dysfunctional.
Co-workers become faceless and disconnected and disappear.
Now your only co-workers are the eyes reflected in the computer’s screen.
Silence deafens.
Stealth emails ring loudly.
Become a phantom employee no one knew existed.
Brings you to the brink of madness.
You become someone your co-workers never knew and
they become strangers you only thought existed.
A rotting, stagnant mind, knows no boundaries and will expand with excessive force.
Then, the world rights itself.
You fall back into place in a world that was once askew.
You fade away into the background as all connections silently slip away.
This process is both therapeutic and revealing,
providing the ability to right wrongs and reset for a whole new adventure.
Just when you thought you were forgotten,
you become a figment of your own imagination.
It becomes a simulated society of people that you remember
you may have met at one point in time.
Their plastic skin melts, pours onto the floor, and becomes one blurry view.
Co-workers become strangers.
Lines of communication begin to dissolve and then cease to function.
The entire DNA structure of what was built disintegrates.
All you are left with is rot.
Working from home is like a flesh-eating virus.
It will try to break you down.
We are not the same.
It will attempt to provide you with an incomprehensible thought process.
Entombed in your home, you become the happy worker…
