Hello,
I was listening an old episode from the Joe Rogan podcast where he was interviewing Firas Zahabi wich is a mixed martial arts trainer. They were discussing which is the way to workout smarter to get the best results and they were talking about an interesting concept that I want to share with you.
It is the Flow Channel:
Firas is an advocade of CONSISTENCY over INTENSITY, he thinks that it is better to train more days at 70% of effort than less days at 100% effort.
If you train at 100% of your possibilities, first you need to rest a lot to recover from the effort and then you feel anxiety plus not fully enjoy the training.
However if you train inside the "Flow Channel" were you feel challenged enough but not anxious nor bored you enjoy a lot the training, it becomes addictive and probably you are going to do it more often.
He has proved this methodology and ensures that almost all of the TOP level athletes train inside the Flow Channel almost all of the year, except when a really big competition approaches.
I think that this concept is valid, and I have also been a huge fan of consistency over intensity last years. I have also adapted my training routines to be enjoyable and challenging enough to be inside the Flow Channel. It is easier to train consistenly over time and get really good results.
Enjoy! 😊
