The way we've been dealing with health has been, to say the least, strange. I don't know if you'll agree, but I believe that the focus of doctors and healthcare professionals in general shouldn't be on treating the disease, but rather on investigating its cause and, even better, preventing it from happening, with procedures and diet geared towards prevention.
If there was at least one good thing about the pandemic, it's that it made people around the world turn their attention to the fitness market and to daily care. People who were taking preventative measures without even knowing it, by exercising, eating a balanced diet, and supplementing with vitamins and minerals, ended up having a better chance during this extremely turbulent period the world went through.
In this sense, I remember watching a video of an athlete who unfortunately contracted COVID-19 and had to be hospitalized. According to his account after his recovery, the "reserve" of muscle he had developed over the years was what allowed him to survive. In his case, and in the case of many people who end up hospitalized, spending days on a stretcher means the body cannot move, and with each passing day, the body loses more and more muscle.
In this specific account, he became ill and ended up with a loss of 20 kg of muscle, something surreal. If it were a person who didn't have this excess muscle mass, they would lose that amount proportionally, but from fundamental areas, and would have great difficulty recovering from COVID-19. This is just one example of how prevention through weight training can help you get through a serious illness, but we will talk more about this below!
I'll be much appreaciated if you Votes, Reblogs or give any Tips. Thanks and have good reading! 🍀
The Path to Health is Prevention!
When you go to the doctor, what do they usually ask? What is your medical history, or what are you feeling at the moment? Many people visit a doctor because they have a specific problem, and the doctor ends up treating the illness.
Because of this, the healthcare system ends up becoming extremely overcrowded, because during holidays or festive periods when the area near you starts to get crowded, that's also when hospitals become overcrowded, since there are more people and when there is a problem they will promptly treat the illness and not the cause.
The cause is precisely where the focus of all healthcare professionals should be. Identify the root cause of the problem and address the underlying cause, not just treat the symptoms. If someone is experiencing pain, it's not about taking pain medication; it's about investigating whether they are eating properly and exercising. This even applies to patients themselves, who need to shift their mindset towards investigation and try to understand the origins of their problem.
Furthermore, it's important to consider how to prevent future problems, which is even rarer. There isn't a preventative medicine specialist who will monitor patients regularly to check for abnormalities and advise on how to avoid potential problems that may arise with age.
For example, it's known that older people lose muscle mass rapidly as they reach old age, so why not increase protein intake and implement physical exercise within their capabilities? Or consider the transition from adolescence to adulthood, where people lose superhuman recovery and learning abilities, so that this decline isn't so drastic. The path to health is prevention!
