Someone Just Bought 1.5 Billion Tokens of a Coin Almost Nobody Is Talking About

If you follow my work, you know that the altcoins I cover in depth tend to share a specific set of characteristics: real technology, fair distribution, genuine differentiation from what already exists, and a credible path to long-term relevance. I recently covered Ethereum, Solana, Chainlink, and HBAR for exactly those reasons.

📖 I am stocking up on these 4 Altcoins — Preparing for the Next Bull Market

Kaspa is different from all four of those — and that's precisely why it deserves its own article.

KAS is currently trading at approximately $0.026, down over 85% from its all-time high of $0.207 in July 2024. The market cap sits around $720 million. By almost every short-term metric, it looks beaten down and forgotten. Most people scrolling past it on CoinGecko would assume it's another failed altcoin fading into irrelevance.

I think those people are wrong. Here's why.

What Kaspa Actually Is — and Why It Matters

Kaspa is a Layer 1 proof-of-work blockchain, but it doesn't work like Bitcoin or any other PoW chain you've used. The core innovation is its blockDAG architecture — a Directed Acyclic Graph structure that allows multiple blocks to be created and validated in parallel, rather than one at a time in a single chain.

In a traditional blockchain like Bitcoin, if two miners produce a block at roughly the same time, one block wins and the other is discarded (orphaned). That's wasted work, and it's one of the fundamental reasons Bitcoin can only process about one block every ten minutes — speeding it up would create too many orphans and compromise security.

Kaspa solves this with its GHOSTDAG protocol. Instead of discarding competing blocks, the network incorporates all valid blocks into the ledger and orders them through consensus. The result is a proof-of-work network that currently processes 10 blocks per second — compared to Bitcoin's one block every 600 seconds — while maintaining the security guarantees that proof-of-work provides.

That's not a theoretical number. It's live on mainnet, right now.

The Fair Launch — No Pre-Mine, No VCs, No Insider Allocation

This is one of the most important things about Kaspa, and it's something that separates it from the vast majority of altcoins launched in the last five years.

Kaspa launched on November 7, 2021 with no ICO, no pre-mine, no venture capital allocation, and no tokens reserved for founders. Every single KAS in circulation was earned through mining. There were no insider bags waiting to be dumped on retail investors. There were no VC unlock schedules creating predictable sell pressure. There was no team allocation creating a conflict of interest between the builders and the holders.

In a market where most new tokens launch with 20–50% of supply allocated to insiders, that's genuinely rare. Bitcoin launched the same way. Very few projects since have had the conviction to do it.

The Supply Picture — Nearly Fully Circulated

As of early August 2026, approximately 27.6 billion KAS are in circulation out of a maximum supply of 28.7 billion. That's roughly 96% of the total supply already out there.

This matters for two reasons. First, there is almost no remaining inflation pressure from new emissions. Kaspa uses a unique emission schedule inspired by musical chromatic scales — smooth monthly reductions rather than Bitcoin's abrupt four-year halvings. By late 2026, new emissions will approach near-zero. The supply squeeze is not a future event, it's happening right now.

Second, unlike many altcoins where you're buying into a token with 15% circulating and 85% still to be unlocked over the coming years, with KAS what you see is essentially what you get. There's no cliff of new supply about to hit the market.

Entity X — Someone With Deep Pockets Is Accumulating

One of the most discussed developments in the Kaspa community right now is Entity X — a single wallet that has been consistently and aggressively accumulating KAS over an extended period.

As of mid-July 2026, Entity X holds approximately 1.5 billion KAS — roughly 5.5% of the entire circulating supply. At current prices, that position is worth approximately $45 million. And they're still buying. Purchases of several million KAS at a time have been appearing on-chain regularly, including a 3.7 million KAS buy recorded as recently as mid-July.

Nobody knows definitively who Entity X is. The two most plausible explanations are either a major exchange building reserves or a large institutional investor accumulating a strategic position. What we do know is that someone is putting tens of millions of dollars into KAS at these price levels, consistently, over months — not the behaviour of a speculator chasing a quick flip.

That doesn't guarantee the price will rise. But it does tell you that someone with significant capital and presumably significant research capacity has arrived at a conviction about this asset's future value that they're backing with real money.

The Toccata Hard Fork — Kaspa Becomes Programmable

For most of its life, Kaspa was a pure payments chain — fast, secure, and technically elegant, but without smart contract capability. That changed on June 30, 2026 when the Toccata hard fork activated on mainnet.

Toccata introduced programmable covenants, native KRC-20 token creation, and zero-knowledge verification opcodes. In practical terms, this transforms Kaspa from a network that can only send and receive value into one that can support decentralised applications, DeFi protocols, and a full token ecosystem.

This is a significant inflection point. Before Toccata, the bearish case against Kaspa was simple: fast transactions are nice, but without smart contracts, there's no ecosystem, no developer activity, and no reason for capital to flow in beyond speculation. Toccata removes that objection entirely.

The question now is whether developers actually build on it. The infrastructure is there. Projects like Kasplex (an EVM-compatible Layer 2) and Igra are in development. But developer adoption takes time, and at this stage, the ecosystem is early. This is the single biggest variable in Kaspa's future — the technology is proven, but the ecosystem is unproven.

The Honest Bear Case — What Could Go Wrong

I don't write one-sided articles. If I'm going to tell you why I hold KAS, I also need to tell you what the risks are, because they're real.

Proof-of-work criticism. Kaspa is a PoW chain in an era where the narrative has shifted heavily toward proof-of-stake. PoW consumes significant energy, and regulatory sentiment in parts of the world has moved against energy-intensive consensus mechanisms. Kaspa's environmental footprint is a legitimate concern and could limit institutional adoption in ESG-conscious markets.

Bitcoin already owns the PoW narrative. Bitcoin is digital gold. It has a 15-year track record, massive institutional adoption, and unmatched brand recognition. For Kaspa to carve out a meaningful position alongside Bitcoin in the PoW category, it needs to demonstrate that its speed and programmability advantages translate into real-world use cases that Bitcoin cannot serve. That case is plausible but not yet proven at scale.

No staking, no yield. Unlike proof-of-stake chains where holders can earn yield by staking, KAS holders earn nothing from simply holding. The token's value proposition is purely based on price appreciation driven by adoption and scarcity. For investors who want passive income from their holdings, this is a genuine limitation.

Ecosystem risk. Toccata only just activated. The developer ecosystem is nascent. If projects don't build on Kaspa's new smart contract capabilities — if the "build it and they will come" thesis doesn't materialise — then the upgrade becomes a "sell the news" event rather than a growth catalyst.

Mining economics. As emissions approach zero and transaction fees remain low, miner profitability depends increasingly on KAS price appreciation. If the price doesn't rise enough to compensate for declining block rewards, miners could shut down hardware, reducing hash rate and network security. This is a long-term structural risk that deserves monitoring.

Price is down 85% from the all-time high. This can be read as either an opportunity or a warning. The honest truth is that it's both, and which one it turns out to be depends entirely on whether the adoption thesis plays out.

The Bull Case — Why I Hold and Continue to Hold

With the risks clearly stated, here's why I remain long-term bullish.

The technology is genuinely differentiated. Kaspa is not a Bitcoin clone. It's not an Ethereum fork. The blockDAG architecture and GHOSTDAG protocol represent a fundamentally different approach to the blockchain trilemma — one that delivers proof-of-work security at proof-of-stake speeds. That's not marketing language; it's a verifiable technical reality running on mainnet at 10 blocks per second.

The fair launch matters more than most people realise. In a market where insider dumping has destroyed countless altcoins, Kaspa's zero-allocation launch means there are no VC unlock schedules, no founder dumps, and no insider conflicts. The supply is clean. What you see on the order book is genuine market activity, not manufactured liquidity waiting for a lockup to expire.

The supply squeeze is real and imminent. With 96% of supply already circulating and emissions approaching zero, any meaningful increase in demand hits a functionally fixed supply. That's the basic economic setup for price appreciation — and it's not theoretical, it's happening now.

Entity X signals institutional-level conviction. A $45 million accumulation position representing 5.5% of circulating supply is not retail behaviour. Someone with significant resources has done their analysis and is building a position at these levels. That doesn't mean you should blindly follow — but it's a meaningful data point.

The market cap leaves room. At $720 million fully diluted, Kaspa is a fraction of the size of networks with comparable or lesser technical achievements. For context, Litecoin — which offers virtually no technical innovation over Bitcoin — has historically maintained a market cap several times higher than Kaspa's current valuation. If Kaspa's ecosystem develops and the broader market enters a genuine bull cycle, the upside from these levels is substantial.

Smart contracts change the entire equation. Toccata is live. For the first time, Kaspa can support DeFi, dApps, and a token ecosystem. This removes the single biggest limitation that bears have pointed to for the past two years. Whether developers show up is an open question — but the door is now open, and it wasn't before.

What About Price Targets?

I'm not going to give you a specific number and pretend it's a certainty. Anyone who tells you KAS is "definitely going to $1" or "guaranteed 50x" is selling you something.

What I can do is frame the math honestly. At the current price of roughly $0.026 and a fully diluted market cap of approximately $720 million, here's what different scenarios look like:

A return to the previous all-time high of $0.207 would represent roughly an 8x from current levels and a market cap of around $6 billion. That's ambitious but not unreasonable for a top-30 asset in a bull market — and KAS has already been at that price once.

Analyst projections for late 2026 range from a conservative $0.05-$0.12 to a more bullish $0.20-$0.30, depending heavily on ecosystem adoption post-Toccata and broader market conditions. Reaching $1 would require a market cap of approximately $28 billion — possible in a strong bull cycle with proven adoption, but a significant stretch from where things stand today.

My personal view: KAS at current prices represents a risk-reward setup that I find compelling for a long-term hold. I am not trading it. I am not trying to time a bottom. I bought, I hold, and I continue to hold because I believe the technology, the supply dynamics, and the fair launch model create a genuine case for significant appreciation over the next one to three years. I could be wrong. But the downside from an 85% drawdown is considerably more limited than the potential upside if the thesis plays out.

Something Else I'm Building

While I spend part of my time analysing other people's projects, I'm also building one of my own — and it's worth a mention here because it shares something important with Kaspa: a commitment to transparency and long-term sustainability over short-term hype.

Kingdom Harvest is a play-to-earn farming NFT game on Base network. Wood mining tools and food harvesting tools are live.

Players can grow and harvest crops on farm plots, raise hens and roosters in a coop, breed them to produce eggs, and trade on a player-to-player marketplace — with plenty more features still to come. The smart contracts are public and source-verified, the tokenomics are designed to prevent hyperinflation, and every transaction costs less than half a cent.

The Bottom Line

Kaspa is not a safe investment. No cryptocurrency is. It's down 85% from its peak, its ecosystem is early-stage, and the proof-of-work model carries real long-term questions about sustainability and narrative positioning.

But if you're looking for an altcoin that has genuine technical differentiation, a fair launch with no insider baggage, a supply squeeze approaching fast, institutional-level accumulation happening visibly on-chain, and a freshly activated smart contract upgrade that removes its single biggest limitation — Kaspa checks those boxes in a way that very few assets in this market do.

I hold it. I've held it for a while. I intend to keep holding it. And if the broader market gives us the bull cycle that the macro indicators are pointing toward, I believe KAS is positioned to be one of the standout performers from these levels.

That's my opinion, stated openly. Do your own research. Size your position responsibly. And never invest more than you can afford to lose — in KAS or anything else.
