This is the second part of the series.
The first part:
What are the four dreams that would change it all?
A tough question. I am human, and sometimes I can chase too many rabbits. But if I have to specify four dreams of my life, goals “that would change it all”, I will write down the following four dreams:
- Build a profitable MEV bot.
- (Quit my job) and start my own business. This can be selling books, a trivia quiz website or both or something totally different.
- Be a highly successful currency trader.
- Be a good programmer. I feel like I should add some thoughts here. Though I love programming and am excited to build things, I don’t study computer science only for development. I also love to read about the theory and would like to study theoretical computer science if I “had $100 million in the bank.”
Wow, what ambitious goals these are. But maybe this is the point, after all?
- Determine the cost of these dreams and calculate your Target Monthly Income (TMI) for both timelines.
- Determine three steps for each of the four dreams in just the
6-month timeline and take the first step now.
It is difficult to achieve your goals if you don’t define your steps clearly. Ferris notes that, and here I agree with him, long-term planning is ineffective and usually doesn’t work. Circumstances change, the external factors change; we ourselves don’t stay constant as well. Having said that, Ferris suggests a 6-month timeline. In fact, not timeline but “dreamline”, a beautiful word better conveying the idea.
Below is my attempt to specify three steps for all my dreams.
Required steps for building a MEV bot.
- To build a MEV bot I have to study the basics of the field. The first step is reading at least 3 articles and watching 2 YouTube videos on how to build a bot. Furthermore, at this step I will look at the code of other searchers (these are people seeking MEV opportunities on-chain) and try to understand the gist of their work.
- Once I’m done with the fundamentals of maximum extractable value, the next step is to learn Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) and Solidity. Solidity is the go-to language for MEV bot development. EVM may not be necessary, but I have read elsewhere that it can make you a much better MEV builder.
- The last step is obviously building my own MEV bot. It is the most challenging part of the dream but without it everything else – all my efforts, all those blog articles and videos – just don’t make sense. At this point, I don’t know or even believe that my bot will be profitable. The goal is to get shit done, i.e., to develop and deploy the bot.
Dreamline for being a good programmer:
- To finish both “CS50x” and “Build a Modern Computer from First Principles” in three months. I have already learnt many things from these two courses, and I believe that completing them will enhance my understanding of computer science, both hardware and software.
- Launching a trivia quiz website using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. Building a trivia related business is one of my lovely dreams, and I’d be proud of myself if I succeed. I am working on developing a quiz database – I have already written more than three thousand questions and write 12 questions on a daily basis.
- It is hard to think of what the third step can be becoming a good developer. Maybe being a good programmer is too abstract a dream? For I believe it’s a path with no visible end. But I can at least try to be more specific. Since I love both financial markets and programming, I can combine my two passions by being a quantitative developer. So, maybe I’ll end up writing quantitative trading programs in Python or another language.
Steps for starting the business of selling books:
- Since I plan to sell books online, obviously the first step is building my own website or better, to start selling with a popular marketplace, such as Amazon. I believe I’ll sell on Ozon.ru, a popular Russian marketplace which is much less competitive than Amazon.
