I Do Not Know…

An Endless Love, A Silent Heart

I do not know what love has filled your soul,
That leaves my heart so empty, dark, and cold.
How can you drown in love and still be blind
To the broken heart you've left behind?

I do not know where all your promises have gone,
Or why I face these lonely nights alone.
You said forever, looking in my eyes,
Now all I have are memories and sighs.

I gave you every dream I held inside,
I gave you all the places where I hide.
I laid my heart before you, pure and true,
But never knew I'd lose myself in you.

I wonder if you ever think of me
When midnight paints the sky in shades of grief.
Do you ever whisper my name in the dark,
Or has time erased the traces of my heart?

Do you remember how we used to be,
When love felt endless, wild, and free?
When every smile could heal a thousand scars,
And we would dream beneath the same old stars?

I still remember every word you said,
The sweetest promises that now lie dead.
You swore that we would never drift apart,
Yet you're a stranger living in my heart.

I walk the streets where once we used to roam,
But every road reminds me I'm alone.
The autumn wind still whispers your name,
And nothing in my world has felt the same.

I find your shadow in the falling rain,
I hear your voice inside my quiet pain.
I see your eyes in every passing face,
Yet nowhere can I find your warm embrace.

I do not know if you have found another,
Someone whose heart you hold just like no other.
I do not know if I still cross your mind,
Or if you've left our memories behind.

Perhaps you laugh beneath a different sky,
While I still wonder why we said goodbye.
Perhaps your nights are peaceful, soft, and deep,
While I lose countless hours trying to sleep.

Tell me, my love, was I so hard to keep?
Was my devotion just a promise cheap?
Did all my tenderness mean nothing then?
Would you leave me broken all over again?

I never asked for castles made of gold,
Or grand declarations meant to grow old.
I only wished to have your hand in mine,
To know your heart would never leave behind.

I never asked the stars to change their ways,
Or begged the sun to give me endless days.
I only wanted, when the world turned gray,
To know you'd choose to stay and not walk away.

But love, it seems, can bloom in one alone,
While one heart breaks, the other turns to stone.
One soul can drown beneath a sea of tears,
While one moves on and disappears for years.

And still, I cannot hate you for the pain,
Though loving you has brought me endless rain.
For even with this sorrow in my chest,
My heart remembers you above the rest.

They tell me time will wash your face away,
That dawn will bring a brighter kind of day.
They say that hearts can learn to love anew,
But how can mine forget a world called you?

You're in the songs that no one hears me sing,
You're in the silence that the night can bring.
You're in the roses fading on my floor,
You're in the heart that waits beside the door.

You're in the coffee cooling by my bed,
You're in the thousand words I never said.
You're in the dreams that vanish with the light,
And in the tears I hide from everyone at night.

I tried to leave your memory behind,
To free my heart, to heal my troubled mind.
But every time I thought that I was free,
Your ghost returned and made a home in me.

And what is love, if not a beautiful ache?
A fragile dream that even time can't break?
A silent prayer that no one else can hear,
A distant voice you wish would reappear?

What is love, if not the choice to stay,
Even when the one you love has walked away?
What is love, if not a burning flame
That lives inside you, whispering their name?

Perhaps one day, when years have come and gone,
You'll hear our song and wonder what went wrong.
Perhaps a memory will find you unaware,
And for one moment, you'll wish I were there.

Perhaps you'll see the autumn leaves descend,
And think about the love we couldn't mend.
Perhaps you'll wonder if I loved you true,
And finally understand what I went through.

And if that day should ever come to be,
You'll find no angry words waiting for thee.
No blame, no curse, no wish to see you fall,
Just love that once had offered you its all.

For I have loved you in a thousand ways,
Through sleepless nights and long forgotten days.
I loved you when your world was bright and new,
And loved you when you never loved me too.

I loved you through the silence and the doubt,
Through every door you closed and shut me out.
I loved you when my heart was torn apart,
And still your name remained within my heart.

So if you ever wonder who I was,
Remember me beyond the hurt because
I was the soul who wished you nothing less
Than love, and peace, and lasting happiness.

I was the one who waited through the rain,
Who smiled in public while concealing pain.
The one who held your memory like a flame,
And never learned to see you quite the same.

I do not know what love has filled your soul,
Or why your heart has grown so hard and cold.
I only know that though you've gone away,
A part of me still hopes you'll someday stay.

And if we never meet beneath the stars,
If time should keep us distant, worlds apart,
I'll keep the sweetest pieces of our past,
A love that wasn't meant to last.

For some goodbyes are never truly said,
Some loves survive long after they are dead.
Some hearts keep beating for a love that's through,
And some still whisper, I belong to you.

So let the years go by, let seasons change,
Let life rearrange what once felt strange.
I'll learn to smile beneath a different sky,
Though some part of me may always wonder why.

And if my final breath should fade away,
If all my words dissolve into the gray,
One truth will live beyond my final sigh:

I loved you more than words could ever try.

I do not know if you were ever mine,
Or if we were just strangers passing time.
But if my heart could speak before it breaks,
It would still choose you, whatever heartache takes.

I do not know what love has filled your soul,
Or why your touch has left me feeling cold.
I only know, through every tear I've cried—

You were the love I never could deny.
