Some time ago I wrote an article about the dirtiest word in cryptoland and in the said article I argued that "wallet" stands out as the absolute dirtiest because we are all convinced to keep our crypto on wallets (even our good friends here at P0x advise against loading crypto directly onto an exchange as it is just asking for trouble). So far so good but then it costs hideous gas fees to do anything useful with the crypto you have stored.
Just as a little example, and anecdote my bigger boy took hold of my phone the other day and randomly opened my Coinbase Wallet; an App I hadn't check for years. The reason I hadn't checked it was because it was on an older phone which I have recently had to go back to because the screen is detaching itself on my newer Samsung. Low and behold I was surprised to discover I have some currency on it, but to do anything with it I have to load my wallet with some ETH, which I am currently not holding.
However, it turns out that the free currency of the month on AutoFaucet is ETH so I am planning to move that into the wallet at the end of the month to shift some of the dormant currency. Not ideal, but at least I am not spending my ETH (in the truest sense of the word) and in the end it will leverage more than it costs.
Just a nice coincidence.
Anyhow that is the dirtiest word. Now for the worst word.
"Provably"
It seems that where free crypto is available the word provably is emblazened all over it and particularly with faucets. Take a look at bitco.in's hi-lo game just as an example. The game is described as "provably fair" The truth is that this word causes you to question why they put it there in the first place. What are they trying to tell you.
"We are working extra hard so you can trust us."
The truth is that it causes more distrust and so it should be.
Let me illustrate. Cointiply, who I am a big fan of, admittedly never use the word provably also have a faucet which has recently been upgraded to a spinner (see an earlier article from last week). The old faucet involved rolling a number between 1 and 100,000 with an associated coin reward. Of course the minimum reward was given after a roll of anything from 00001-70,000 (if I remember correctly) so users rarely got more than that, even with the prime number bonus. However, it was very common, at least 3 or four times a month, to roll 11,111 which automatically generated a respin. If this was truly random the occurrences of 11,111 would have been less frequent.
I repeat again in fairness to Cointiply they never used the phrase "provably fair" or anything of that ilk; so actually their Coins are a gift that should just be taken at face value.
Furthermore, a significant number of adverts carry similar slogans and this is why on the whole while I take advantage of collecting the rewards I actually trust the content less than I would Putin if I were to meet him one day.
AND BELIEVE ME HE IS NOT A PERSON TO BE TRUSTED
And this is why I hate this word.
Just as an interesting point of comparison, it is like including the word "probably" in any sentence. I am probably the best blogger on P0x (which means I am [most] probably not!). Inclusion of the word probably renders an entire sentence pointless just as provably renders any kind of sentence or offer untrustworthy.
As always stay safe and well my friends.
