PublishOx and Down Voting

PublishOx and Down Voting

Everybody has got opinions, but nobody has got the answer

– Cinderella 1987; 'Somebody Save me'

I am sitting writing this and must admit to feeling more than a little irritated and to make something absolutely clear from the beginning not with PublishOx. I will also start with an apology from the outset because I am sure what I am about to write doesn’t apply to the vast majority…

… but for that minority of negative doomsayers filled with toxicity, sit up and pay attention. I am addressing you and I am sure I will find some sympathy among other bloggers in the community. It is highly likely that the tone of this article thus far has already attracted some down votes, but there you go – S*** happens!

So what has ticked me off so much?

Yesterday I wrote a broadly informative piece on how Coinbase has recently added Loopring to their supported currencies, and how it means that now they support all three Publish0x tipping currencies (ETH, BAT & LRC). Finally I added a personal comment on how this suits me as I have been holding my Publish0x Loopring ever since I started blogging just over two months ago while I figured out what to do with it. I had looked into some options and now Coinbase support it, problem solved. Read the article in full here.

Then somebody down voted it.

Now don’t get me wrong, I am not oversensitive or offended, but to down vote such an article is just frankly ridiculous .I have had some down votes before and not been fazed by them, but what was there to down vote on the article summarised above? You don’t like it, you don’t like Coinbase, you don’t like me? Get over it and move on!

Down voting, surely to be a useful tool, has to be informative.

Now before you think I am getting all self-righteous or all too touchy and PC on you let me explain further.

Yes I have down voted at least one article before today and I have even reported one blogger.

In the first case it was a borderline fascist view and conspiracy theory on denying Coronavirus that crossed the line – especially for  somebody who knows and in one case knew people directly affected by Coronavirus. One person I knew died after contracting it and another was seriously ill and even now months later has not really recovered despite being physically very fit and in a so called ‘safe’ group before contracting it. Their symptoms and the repercussions are not a lie.

In the second case the blogger was just copying and pasting links. There was no original content which as far as I understand is against community rules. What Publish0x did with my reporting I have no idea.

Down voting and reporting surely was devised by Publish0x (and I wholly support this move) to keep the quality high, which broadly speaking it does. Also while most content is crypto based not all of it is nor does it need to be. I too have shared a couple of business concepts and personal stories as part of my blog.

I also want to highlight one person in particular – I am not going to say who because [s]he hasn’t given me express permission to do so (although [s]he probably wouldn’t mind). I have a great deal of respect for this person who never blogs about crypto, but from the short biography it is clear that life had given them a difficult hand. I admire this person’s courage, convictions and perseverance in the face of adversity and challenging personal circumstances and their let’s get on with it attitude.

Yet some might question why [s]he is blogging on Publish0x?

Well why not? And if it is providing additional income as well as a focus then it is only good. Besides what [s]he is blogging about is pretty good even if it’s not crypto.

The point is that while we all have opinions and views on certain things let’s use down voting wisely. Yes there are times when it is absolutely the right thing to do. If I had written Coinbase is the best exchange / service out there (I don’t even believe that myself) then down vote if you disagree.

Some posts express an opinion and invite (often differing) opinions whereas others are just informative. Down voting really should be targeted at the former and not the latter and if the latter is not matching the community standards then surely that’s what reporting is for?

So if you are down voting or reporting please do so for good reason.

Ok let’s see how many downvotes this gets…
