CryptoTab – Scam or Worth the Time and Effort?

CryptoTab – Scam or Worth the Time and Effort?

Those of us who have been in the crypto game for a while will have inevitably come across CryptoTab and on the surface it sounds ideal. Earn Bitcoin while you surf on what is in fact a Chromium‑based web browser with supposedly built‑in “Bitcoin mining.”

We can all understand the charm and attraction in that. After all it is what Brave Browser is doing with BAT – but it is BitCoin!

Even though some like the idea of earning anything while browsing and appreciate the simple interface the fact is that only a few long‑term users have been able to claim small, occasional payouts. However, the reality is very often very different. Independent reviews have shown extremely low earnings, withdrawal problems, and frequent scam accusations and based on current evidence, it is not a worthwhile investment.

What CryptoTab actually does is use your device’s CPU to simulate mining and offers paid “Cloud Boost” upgrades to increase earnings (ultimately theirs not yours) and while it markets itself as a way to earn BTC passively while browsing it nonetheless relies heavily on referral systems to increase earnings and encourages users to buy the aforementioned boosts or subscriptions to “increase mining speed”.

Furthermore, significant numbers of users have experienced withdrawal delays or often  failures when it comes to payouts, with many of them waiting days or never receiving anything. There have been claims of fraud, straight and simple with complaints that the system only really works temporarily and then it simply stops paying what are in fact extremely low earnings and very often don’t even cover the electricity or subscription costs paid out by the end user. This is against a backdrop of what could be defined as aggressive upselling of their “supporting products (i.e. boosts and subscriptions) which rarely produce any kind of meaningful return.

So when it comes down to it CryptoTab’s “mining” is mostly a marketing layer over CPU hashing and this is something that hasn’t been profitable for BitCoin in over a decade.

To conclude my advice is to steer well clear and I only wrote this article because the lure of free BitCoin while browsing was so strong that I had to do my own research and then once done I thought it would be only fair to share it with the P0x community. I would even go as far as to say don’t even bother doing your own research (on this occasion!) and to just steer clear of it altogether.

Feel free to comment about your experiences with CryptTab (hence the header picture; it was actually a typo but I think I like it so I have left it alone!) below.

As always stay safe and well my friends.
