And here I am again with another short but sweet post.
Yesterday was all about Polish Christmas - Wigilia as they call it. It has always struck me as a bit odd to do things on 24th bearing in mind what it represents in the "official" birth of Christ. It is like having your birthday celebration the day before! I often wonder if it is related to the English word vigil as, based on the Biblical Story, Mary almost certainly went into labour late in the evening with Christ being born in the early hours.
This too happened with me but I don't celebrate my birthday at the pint my mum's labour began, but at my point of arrival.
So today, being a multicultural household, it is English Christmas and to be honest it is not as full as a Polish Christmas. Alas I have been unable to get hold of any crackers or silly paper hats (not to mention the bad jokes), but there will be more presents and merriment centred on our two small children and at some point in the middle of the day we will sit down to a turkey dinner with all the trimmings; namely, pigs in blankets, stuffing, carrot, peas and roast parsnips as well as a braised onion. There is some variation from the tradition based on our own food tastes. Later on, if there is room there will be cake and Christmas Pudding for me (nobody else likes it - more for me!!!), the latter being served with custard.
So finally for today before we get down to it and before the boys wake up I want to wish you all a happy and peaceful Christmas and as always stay safe and well my friends.
