Q3 Quantum Updates

In keeping with my quarterly Quantum Computing Updates series,  here are the Quantum updates I found for Q324, however it felt like Q3 passed in the blink of an eye!

Sept 16 - Boeing, IBM, and Microsoft mark advances in quantum computing

IBM launched its Quiskit Functions Catalog, a collection of services that are designed to make it easier for enterprise developers to experiment with quantum use cases.

Boeing plans to launch a satellite to facilitate quantum communications. Who is ready to Quantum Computers running on Satellites?  I am certain the engineers have figured out all the issues and they won't just become more space debris.

Microsoft claims THE most stable Quantum computer. This runs on Microsoft Azure Quantum Compute Platform. Where Microsoft partnered with Quantinuum to create 12 logical qubits. Through this partnership Quantinuum provided the quantum hardware and Microsoft handled the error correction.

Sept 10 -Q-CTRL Inks Deals with Quantum big names.

IBM, Rigetti, Oxford, and Diraq

Aug 16 - DARPA announced Quantum Benchmarking Initiative (BMI)

& Google Outlined NIST Quantum Cryptography Standard

Aug 14 - NIST Released First 3 Finalized Post Quantum Cryptography Standards

These standards will help legacy computing firms steer towards a more robust and secure future.

Aug 3 - German quantum breakthrough highlights need for particle physicists in crypto = quantum finance

Leading German research in particle physics had discovered impacts to Economics, Finance and potentially Crypto currencies. This is termed Quantum Advantage, where quantum computers tackle tasks classical computers can't handle.  Does this usher in a new era of Econophysics?

July 3 - nations enact mysterious export controls on quantum computers

Much like restrictions on encryption technology, now quantum components have restrictions on what gets exported.  UK being the first to implement export restrictions on quantum gear.  France, quickly followed with export limits of their own.  Swiss government was quick to say they are just going to leverage existing mechanisms to restrict quantum technology

Summary

Microsoft claims we have entered the era of reliable quantum computation, you on board with this statement?  Quantum Advantage is bringing changes to physics, why not Crypto? New Quantum export restrictions to contain 'Cyber risks'.  Time will be the best indicator if the restrictions work or are just procedural in nature.   NIST has formerly published 3 Post Quantum Cryptography standards. Lots of new tech shaking out in Q324!  Keep it coming, I am loving it!
