How about getting one of the best new cryptocurrencies for free? Cool right? I know!
Solana has just be launched on Binance. To celebrate, they are giving away 50 million of their coins based on a first come, first served basis! Just hit this link and participate in the airdrop. It doesn't take 2 minutes, honest!
Ok. Let's get into the post.
In this post, I'll explain exactly how bitcoin works. And no, you won't be seeing any of that technical language here. The aim of this post is to make you understand how Bitcoin works without knowing any of the technical terms.
Sure, you won't be able to impress your date with words like hash rate and proof of work and all that kind of stuff, but at least you'd know the fundamentals. And that's all that matters in the end.
Let's get started!
For this to be very simple, we must use an analogy.
Assume that your friend travelled to China(not now, but when things were alright) to go taste some actual ramen, instead of the packaged stuff. But upon getting to China, he found out that he didn't have any money in his pocket.
Dang! He just forgot those $100 bills lying on the table at home. He would have exchanged them for some yuan and got to eating that hot ramen.(I'm starting to think ramen is from Japan. I'm not sure anymore, but the show must go on)
Luckily, he finds a free WiFi joint, and you guys start chatting on WhatsApp. He of course made no reservations for a hotel, and is probably starving to death.
So he asks you to send him some money. But of course that would take days, even through the best services. And he luckily doesn't have PayPal.
This picture I'm painting is becoming very, very much like a horror, but it's essential for your understanding. Read on, dear friend.
So you get a brilliant idea. Why don't you send him some Bitcoin? Then he could sell it at an exchange and cash out in Yuan instantly.
He's excited about the idea, and in under a few seconds, his Binance exchange account is done.
Now, he sends you his address. You initiate a send procedure for 50BTC.(You're a whale of course. Live your dream even if it's exactly that)
Now, that procedure is unverified. Every one distrusts it, because why should they trust you? You're not trustworthy. At least not yet.
Once your send order hits, a bunch of nerds with computers called miners sense your transaction, and all of them with their powerful computers rush to the scene of the transaction. They want to be first to process it, not because they like your face, but because of the reward.
So your transaction is verified by the first miner to start the verification process. This process is highly technical, so we leave out everything pertaining to it. Just know it's an important part of the process.
After your transaction has been verified, it is added to a list of other transactions that have equally been verified. This is called a block.
Now, these transactions, having been verified, are executed on a first come, first served basis. Of course, it's the nerds with computers doing all the work.
Onve it comes to the turn of your transaction, the first nerd's computer to get to processing it has to solve a series of cryptographic mathematical problems to prove his trust. If he is able to do this, he is awarded with not only the victory over the other nerds, but the privilege of passing your transaction on, as well as a reward for successfully mining a block. Who's the nerd now, John?
Once your transaction's verification is complete, your Bitcoin can now pass on to your friend in China, who, for some reason forgot Chinatown existed.
But there's the problem of you trying to spend your bitcoin again. That won't be good for anyone.
So the details of your transaction are put on a public database, often referred to as a decentralised public ledger. Everyone can see your shame, I mean your transactions once they have your wallet address.
This way, the exact details if your transaction are etched into stone, and along with some other technical factors, it prevents you from spending your bitcoin again.
Now your friend can cash out his Bitcoins into yuan and enjoy some sweet ramen!
Of course, the dream is for us to be able to spend the bitcoin in the ramen shop. But we I'll get there some day.
