The resilience of the Russian economy in avoiding depression can be explained by a specific psychological orientation that is widespread in Russian culture. The publication does not present quantitative economic indicators such as gross domestic product (GDP) or per capita income, but it explains the main factors that contribute to Russia's ability to survive an economic downturn. Yes, Russia's economy is deteriorating due to sanctions and other geopolitical events. But the question is, why are there no protests or headlines in Moscow and St. Petersburg describing this decline, and what collective unconscious fantasy are Russians living in?

Why the Russian economy hasn't collapsed yet...
The reason why the Russian economy hasn't collapsed is quite curious, it's a very interesting reason. What's happening: the ruble is falling, the ruble is constantly falling, it's trying to overcome the resistance at the kopeck level, but our kopeck is not a reason to be proud. If the ruble falls below a kopeck, then it is essentially worthless. It is indicative that the ruble resembles a brick in an inexorable fall, and such a fall inexorably indicates that the Russian economy is not improving at all. Because people do not want to hold this currency, it is a means of exchange and savings, they are forced to do so, but they do not want to, even if the Central Bank of Russia tries to take action. Secondly, inflation is growing now, even with contradictory official statistics and information, there is an increase in prices for consumer goods, prices are growing everywhere and every day, and no one can do anything about it. Because there is supply and demand and there is GDP per capita and you could argue that Russia has the largest economy in the world or in the top five, second only to North Korea (sarcasm), but the factor that cannot be fooled is GDP per capita and the GDP is shrinking. That there is a huge brain drain where people are leaving Russia, the best and the brightest, and also international politics, especially with Ukraine, where there is a waste of human capital and the only thing that the country is getting is offloading its natural resources to countries like China who are just taking advantage of it. Western sanctions, capital flight and the exit of companies are having an impact, so the question is why is the economy not collapsing in Russia? Everyone is waiting with bated breath, where is this collapse in Russia? And there are two things, the second of which is more important. The first is, what is a collapse, what is an economic recession? It is simply a redistribution of resources. That is part of the free market. But Russia is not a free market. The World Corruption Index in Russia is 141st place out of 180 countries. Therefore, in a country without a free market and with the highest level of corruption, there will be no redistribution of resources. Only in favor of the oligarchs. The second and main reason is the Russian mentality, the reason lies in the Russian consciousness. The mentality of the Russian consciousness is ingrained to live in a post-apocalyptic dysphoric fantastic reality. In a reality in which people can simply live on nothing, and if necessary, just go to live in the village, get chickens, grow potatoes, cultivate beds, and everything will be fine, people do not even need heating. This looks crazy to Europeans. After all, if the electricity or heating is turned off in Russia, everyone survives, everything is fine, albeit a little cold. It is almost like a source of pride, we are Russian, we can survive any difficulties, it is like a sign of courage, these sufferings of Russians, it is like the essence of the Russian soul and the Russian spirit. Mother Russia conjures up all these fantastic images that the economy and consumerism of the West is not something that should worry us personally because we are Russian, we can survive. How far can this go? The standard of living is falling even just due to inflation, because real wages cannot keep up. If we talk about Russia, this can go on almost indefinitely. There is an amazing book by the author Richard Matheson "The Way Down" ("The Shrinking Man"). I recommend this outstanding author. Many famous films have been made based on his novels: "I Am Legend", "Real Steel", "What Dreams May Come". A film was also made based on "The Way Down", a film starring Matt Damon "Shorter". In the book and in the movie, the incredibly shrinking little man becomes smaller and smaller, but each time he discovers a new secret, eventually realizing that he will never shrink to an impossible size, and so the Russians, like such a little man, can live on bread and water, even realizing that this is madness.

Today in the world the standard of living has increased thanks to technology, but people in Russia are almost proud of the fact that they can survive, they are Russian, they are different from the West, they are resilient, and all this has been brought up in them by political propaganda, which has made them apolitical, they are unlikely to go out on the streets, unlike the French, who if they don’t get paid, they will go out to protest in the center of Paris. Russians will not do that. 70-odd years of communism, and now an oligarchy protected by security forces, when it is better not to interfere, just to remain unnoticed, just to survive until everything gets better. And people do not need anything, they will just carry water from the well, live unnoticed in the countryside, grow their own food, maybe have a few chickens, and trade and barter with each other. The Russian economy is not collapsing because people can just live, and they do, and if necessary, they are sent somewhere to the front, they just go and do what they are told, and this is unfortunate, because human life, human capital is devalued in Russia. You will say: "Okay! But what about the currency?" Yes, even a brick can become a currency in Russia. A brick can successfully replace the ruble. After all, what do they have, for example, in India, South Korea, in other similar countries? The same bricks. But the Russian economy leaves everyone behind, it has no equal. There are many cracks in the Russian economy, and this is due to sanctions, and because of the crumbling infrastructure, because of the special operation, and finally the limited supply of high-tech equipment that Russia is trying to buy from China. And this does not mean that China is our ally and friend, and that they like us, they just want to make a dollar, taking Russian oil and timber and selling in exchange high-tech parts that they make secretly. But the wave, the tide and the situation are not in Russia's favor, the economy continues to fall. And this gives hope. Because maybe at some point, some great geopolitical event will happen, the right time will come when people will be able to regain the freedom, peace and prosperity that they deserve. But overall, the economy is not collapsing, because there is nothing to collapse. It will go lower and lower until people are basically on bread and water, because all this is embedded in the collective unconscious mentality of Russia. Read the literature of Dostoevsky, read any work of Russian classics, any work of Tolstoy, Gogol, all the works of Pushkin, all the authors and all the ideas that tell us that we come from Mother Russia, we are different, and this is a source of our pride. This is the psychology and mentality of apolitical people. The Russian soul, which believes that we are different and can survive, no matter what. It is impossible to support a modern economy with water, bread and oil, but this is all that is needed for survival.
Russia has nothing because the real value of an economy is its market structure, innovation, and entrepreneurial risk-taking, not its resources. This is called the resource curse. Venezuela has more resources per capita than almost any other country, yet it is poor. But look at Malaysia, Hong Kong, London, Luxembourg, Finland, Iceland, etc. Russia is like North Korea in that it is not a free people. The greatest resource on earth is free minds. In modern Russia, there are two classes: the ruling class, and those who serve the ruling class in the army or as indentured servants, receiving low wages of less than $10,000 a year in most cities.
Read or watch Dead Souls by Nikolai Gogol, or anything by Dostoevsky or Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn, and you will see what I mean. The irony is that the great Russian soul that writers of the past spoke of is dead. Russian culture has been depoliticized, true religion has been destroyed. The country resorts to a false sense of pride in Mother Russia because we have simply been made to believe propaganda. The unfree press and the propaganda of the ruling class have instilled superiority in the Russian soul through a Machiavellian revolution of the Russian collective unconscious mentality. We are pawns who simply take on economic hardships.
