Two voices, one alarm.
We have reached a situation where the Kremlin publicly reacts to Victoria Boni's appeal, but does not comment on Dmitry Muratov's speeches or Robert Nigmatulin's harsh economic criticism. When the emotional signal from social networks turns out to be more noticeable than the reasoned position of experts with numbers, this indicates a shift in focus from analysis to reaction to resonance. And in the long run, such logic is dangerous: it enhances the visibility of feedback, but weakens its quality.
On April 7, 2026, at the Moscow Economic Forum, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences Robert Nigmatulin, a member of the Presidium of the Russian Academy of Sciences, a man who built Soviet science and saw the ups and downs of the country, uttered the words that were supposed to be the main news of the week.
Nigmatulin explicitly warns of the risk of a "double-digit economic decline." Key points: Russia's per capita income is among the lowest in Europe, the average GDP growth over 10 years is 1.5%, while prices have increased by 77%, presidential decrees on the economy have not been implemented since 2012, and there is no responsibility. This is not just a criticism, but a systemic diagnosis of stagnation, where weak growth does not compensate for inflation, and demographic decline exacerbates the problem.
Nigmatulin is not an oppositionist. He is a system person. Member of the Presidium of the Russian Academy of Sciences. Someone who needs to be heard. And if he says that the decrees don't work and the cadres aren't suitable, that's not an opinion. This is a man's testimony from the inside.
We live in a country where no one is responsible, because, as Nigmatulin said, no one is responsible. Ignoring him means confirming his thesis: there is no feedback, criticism does not work, and no one is responsible.
A paradox that cannot be overlooked: An academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, a member of the Presidium, speaks of a real decline in the economy, depopulation, and the failure of decrees — silence. Blogger Bonya says "everyone is afraid" — official comment. The government does not react to the content. Not for examination. Not on the status. The government reacts to noise and coverage. And this is a diagnosis that Nigmatulin confirms in his own words about the inefficiency of management.
Bonya recorded an emotional video to Putin: "The people are afraid of you, there is a wall between you and us." She listed five problems (floods in Dagestan, fuel oil in the Black Sea, blockages, pests in power, pressure on business), stressing that the governors are silent out of fear. Her metaphor with Everest ("lies don't survive in the mountains") adds drama.
The very fact of the public reaction to the blogger's appeal shows that the Kremlin is recording public tension. But fixation does not translate into political or economic decisions.
With a difference of only a few days, these two appeals to the authorities were made: the academician and the blogger. And the same diagnosis. The first is from Robert Nigmatulin, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The second one is from Victoria Boni, a blogger. Different people. Different language. Different levels. But if you remove the form, the content turns out to be frighteningly similar. Nigmatulin speaks dryly and harshly: the economy is not actually growing, prices have increased, incomes remain among the lowest in Europe, decrees are not being implemented, there is no responsibility. This is the language of the system. The language of numbers, indicators, and failures. The main thing in his words is not criticism, but the conclusion: the country is heading for a serious economic crisis. This is a signal from within the elite. Boney's address is the exact opposite in form: "they are afraid of you," "there is a wall between you and the people," "I speak from the heart." There are no numbers. There is no analytics. But there is the main thing — the feeling. Fear. The distance. The inability to get through. And it's not about economics anymore. It's about the breakup. In fact, both are talking about the same thing: the system is not working as it should. Nigmatulin — through indicators: the economy is stalling, decisions are not being implemented. Bonya is through perception: power is cut off, there is no communication, there is fear.
Dmitry Peskov's reaction is indicative: "the appeal was noticed," "the topics are important," "work is underway," This is the standard language for managing an attention crisis. But he does not respond to either of two signals: neither to systemic inefficiency, nor to the gap between government and society. When an academic speaks the language of crisis and a blogger speaks the language of fear, it means that the problem has gone beyond one area. It's not just economics, it's not just politics, it's not just communications. This is a system failure. Previously, criticism of the government went through different channels: experts — about the economy, society — about emotions. Now these lines are starting to match. And this is an important point, because when numbers and feelings converge, it is no longer an opinion, but a trend. Two appeals are not an accident. These are two ways of saying the same thing: the system is not coping, trust is being destroyed, and the gap is growing. And the most important thing is that it sounds at the same time. The system usually ignores such signals until they can no longer be ignored.
Nigmatulin hits the institutions, Bonya hits the nerves. Together, they illustrate the gap: official data on GDP growth contrast with the street sense of trouble.
Both appeals are a mirror of accumulated problems: economic stagnation plus social exclusion. Nigmatulin demands a change of course, Bonya demands an honest dialogue. The authorities record the signals, but the answer "work is underway" does not dispel doubts. Without real changes, it sounds like a confirmation of the main thesis: there is feedback, but it doesn't work. And that's why both signals remain what they are for now: two voices in the void.
