They went against the system and saved human lives

The system has long since rotted, we have seen that in films they want to convey this to those people who do not see it.

Three real stories worthy of film adaptation. Stories that say that there are things you cannot remain silent about. This is the position of a real person - if you see trouble, you need to help.

Stories about confrontation with extreme cynicism, rapacity and greed of polished and respectable gentlemen.

Stories showing the strength of human character, and how to do the right thing, not give up in the face of difficulties and threats.

Stories that teach kindness and compassion, real help to those who need it, and most importantly, perseverance in life.

"The system is rigged! They want us to believe that they are protecting us, but that is a lie. We are the only ones protecting us. We do it. No one else. Not companies, not scientists, not the government. Us." (The system is rigged! They want you to think that it protects us! We protect us, we do!).

The system is rigged

The system is rigged

The system is rigged

The system is rigged

The system is rigged

This quote pretty much sums up every act of corruption throughout history. Keep people obedient, compliant and ignorant so that they accept whatever is told to them, don't question whether it is wrong or not and just follow blindly like mindless sheep.

The phrase is especially good if you look at it from a class point of view, where the system is considered capitalism itself, because at the top sit the capitalists with their thoughts on profit. Moreover, the system knows very well that epiphany for the masses is empty thoughts and empty chatter with fellow intellectuals, nothing more. What actions can you take against the system? None!

A film with a lot of meaning. A film about a great man. The film reflects the real relationship of capital to humanity. A true story, very well documented. It shows how large corporations, whose fundamental principles are profit and growth, become monsters who do not care about human lives. It's heartbreaking to know that we're still paying the price.

The film "Dark Waters" (2019) is an illustration of the fact that great wealth is always built on human lives. This is a lawyer’s struggle not only with a huge corporation, but also with the state system.

Lawyer Robert Bilott (https://twitter.com/robertbilott) is suing DuPont for decades of cynically poisoning people by contaminating drinking water with chemicals. He has been running this business for 19 years.

The film tells that everything around you - every object you or your children touch is poison. And it really makes you look at things from a different angle.

Robert Bilott himself exchanged a calm and measured life for the eternal struggle with the corporate machine that is destroying modern society. No, it doesn’t destroy - it kills the present and future generations.

One cannot help but admire the courage of people like lawyer Robert Bilott, who opposed the system and won at least in battle, because it is not possible to win this war, as it turned out during the viewing, but the motto of the film is still clear: “Fight for the truth, no matter how unequal the forces may be."

At the same time, it becomes bitter that large companies so easily manage to evade responsibility for many years, even ruining the health of the residents of an entire region, and when they are pressed, they get away with handouts of several million with billions in income every year.

This is the story of Robert's struggle to uncover the truth about a material that is part of almost every product on the planet!

Here the topic of modern society is raised and an attempt to open the eyes of the current generation a little wider: everything that surrounds us is a slow but steadily acting poison. Everything we touch during the day - a cell phone, a frying pan, waterproof cosmetics, door handles, jackets and T-shirts, a cheeseburger wrapper, a bag of fast food pizza - is a poison that causes slow destruction of the body, and it is worth talking about . It's worth shouting about.

Hundreds of people fell ill with cancer and other deadly diseases due to the fault of this chemical company. Also, during the course of the film, it becomes clear that one should be wary of frying pans and pots that use Teflon as a non-stick coating, excessive heating of which is fraught with the release of harmful carcinogenic substances into food.

The worst thing about all this is that the consequences of this very pollution have affected the lives of almost every person living on the planet: the use of the concentrated chemical compound PFOA (Teflon) developed by DuPont in everyday life has a detrimental effect on human health. This is an important issue, this is an important movie called Dark Waters.

An incredibly relevant film that clearly speaks not only about the dubious environmental situation around, but also about exceptional human bravery and courage.

It is noteworthy that to this day the so-called Teflon, or C8, or PFOA, is used in various household items. But were Robb's efforts in vain? Of course not! After all, despite everything, he proved that you must always fight and not give up until the last!

After the scandal raised by Billot around DuPont, the government and the corporation reconsidered their attitude towards the main object of environmental litigation - perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) and its derivative - Teflon and useful things in the household created with its help. The substance began to be removed en masse from technological processes and was included in the list of chemically hazardous substances. But only in the USA...

But in Russia, and in some other countries, no one is trying to inform the public about the dangers of PFOA, which is still used in production. No regulatory document regulates the use of the substance or allows for the control of environmental pollution emanating from production processes in which fluoroplastics are used. Draw your own conclusions.

It’s difficult to watch a film, especially when you see the result of an activity that is dangerous to people’s lives and health, and given the scale of this activity, you are simply horrified. Although, in a way, in this film you can also find propaganda against everything synthetic (even this affected me and my first desire after watching it was to throw out all my non-stick frying pans and go back to the old cast iron one). We are all poisoned - one of the constant slogans of the film, and it works, you start to think.

The events that took place in the film began at the end of the 20th century and continue to this day...

In my humble opinion, this film is not so much about environmental pollution or the dangers of Teflon on human health, but about the fact that even one brave and purposeful person is able to resist the most formidable enemy.

No matter how trivial it sounds, the film encourages you to always fight to the end and never give up, even when it seems that everything is already lost. And it is quite natural that the “fighter for justice and truth” Robert Bilott evokes pride, admiration and even makes us empathize. This is precisely what attracts the ordinary viewer.

"Dark Waters" is based on the famous New York Times Magazine article "The Lawyer Who Became DuPont's Worst Nightmare" by Nathaniel Rich. At one time, she raised a considerable fuss about the environmental “understatements” of the DuPont Corporation. It has long been no secret that large corporations strive to take risks for the sake of additional income with many zeros. Many high-ranking individuals prefer to neglect not only their own principles, but also “don’t give a damn” about general behavioral principles, just to ensure a rich and relaxed life for themselves. They themselves do not notice how they are losing the last drop of humanity, essentially “driving the last nail into the coffin.”

Dark Waters belongs to that dying breed of films that refer to the world outside, plagued by corruption and hopelessness. Corporate influence on economies raises the question: what to do if the bad guys have already won? Well, “Dark Waters” gives the answer to this over and over again: we must fight because it is right in itself. Thus, this topical film becomes not only an author’s statement (it’s not for nothing that Billot, as the plot develops, several times addresses himself almost directly to the viewer), but also a film-call.

The film shows today's reality. The rivers are poisoned, substances that we have no idea about are being released into the atmosphere. And then a man died of cancer...

The film instills horror and anger, showing how large corporations can ignore dangers and hide the truth from the public. It is scary to realize that such stories are reality, and we are all faced with the consequences of the massive use of chemicals.

Ignoring all sorts of rules in the field of product safety, as well as the obvious deterioration of the environmental situation in places of production, it is worth remembering that such consequences cannot go unnoticed. There will always be those who will be willing to take risks in order to obtain long-awaited justice. Rob Bilott did this. This cannot be called an ordinary service, a simple request or high-quality performance of one’s work, THIS IS AN ACTION in the name of all humanity, which slowly but surely lifts the veil of secrecy on the dirty and truly dark activities of the chemical tycoon. No matter how monstrous and frightening the information received may seem, this is the truth - the thing that everyone feared, because only the truth can hurt so painfully and open your eyes to a simple but very clear fact - humanity is inhuman. We can be convinced of this forever after viewing this picture, but at the same time maintain faith in the man - a lone warrior who set out on a ruthless and bloody path only so that people would finally know the truth and find peace.

For 40 YEARS, a chemical company has been POISONING PEOPLE with Teflon, causing CANCER and TEETH damage. The film is based on real events. Former corporate lawyer Robert Billott decides to take up environmental issues. And he brings charges in court against the DuPont company, which for decades cynically poisoned people by polluting drinking water with chemicals.

Cool film, the whole essence of modern society, where money is in the head instead of brains. The story of only one corporation is told. How many more of these are unknown? It is surprising that the heads of these corporations are also people from the same mold. Why are they not afraid to fall victim to their inventions?

The worst thing is that this really happened.
The worst thing is that this is still happening.

Evil wins when good people don't act. Such suffering and injustice define the human world.

The film is about the fact that we need to gather our strength and be for each other, because Superman will not come, there is only us.

The madness will stop when people realize that greed and irresponsibility are rampant and it is happening everywhere.

A film that made public the human struggle against greed and corruption. The film shows that we can make changes. And this is a seed planted in the right soil!

Dark Waters

"A Civil Action" (1998), starring John Travolta. This film shows how difficult it is to fight for justice in a world in which people prefer to hear sweet lies rather than the bitter truth and in a world when it is easier to close their eyes to some things. The director of the film, Zaillian, does not condemn either the first or the second throughout the film. But at the same time leaving the main question of the picture open. What would you do? John Travolta's character was well aware of the gap between his usual profitable business and a civil lawsuit against an industrial giant.

Civil action

Erin Brockovich (2000). This picture is about fearlessness, unity and inspiration and, of course, about faith. The girl started a process that subsequently has an impact on society itself, the work of a business corporation, the presence of guilt and its punishment, which inspires people to be better, to believe in justice, to act and fight fearlessly. All this in itself tells society through the screen: “act, help, believe and work on it.” A picture with a deep meaning that is easily visible through the layers of banalities and hackneyed themes. The fact that the main character herself is in personal difficulties only says that this particular girl, despite all her personal pains, continues to love, helps and acts and remains open, cheerful and bright, and all her work and all her work accompanied by strength, and without evil and aggression in the usual form, but with humor and the ability to forgive. This is what makes Erin a heroine.

The film gives so many mixed messages. You start to think about what you would do. How would I do it?

The film exposes us to the problem of the danger that the government brings not only to the outside world, but even to its citizens, and how important it is not to be afraid to blow up castles in the air.

The world depicted here is unimaginably heartbreaking. But it is also reassuring at the same time. Nowadays, not everyone lives in a world in which at least some official rules are observed. The movie is shocking because families who dare to say a word about the reasons for the catastrophic deterioration of their health are not approached with searches and arrest warrants on charges of undermining the foundations of statehood. Yes, all sorts of corporations resort to standard methods of intimidation and bribery, but they don’t even get to the point of anything truly frightening. And for some reason the judge here accepts the evidence and considers it when it is presented, rather than ignoring it. Probably because the judge, here you go, is able to draw at least a rational and practical conclusion that if he lives not far from the place of such deplorable incidents, then this may also affect him, or his family. And lo and behold, humanity, ordinary human sympathy for victims is not alien to him.

This film is capable of spurring activists to courage and inflexibility, although their activities, frankly, are often much more dangerous than Erin’s, at least in those places where large corporations not only violate all sorts of laws, but can also use administrative resources to pressure on witnesses and the investigation.

The themes touched upon in this film are really too sad, and rather encourage people to be able to see this in real life. And adults, and even more so small children, suffering from cancer or Hodgkins disease, being treated with difficult methods, radiation or chemotherapy - this is scary, this is very scary. Those who have gone through this themselves, or their relatives and loved ones... will understand. And the rest too - look around, look, don’t keep silent about the stories of people from whom unpoisoned soil, water and air were so vilely taken away.

We are talking about a powerful corporation that pollutes groundwater, resulting in hundreds of people falling ill with dangerous diseases with serious consequences. Gradually, Erin gets to know the victims, finding out more and more details. Before us appear people with crippled destinies, suffering from serious, sometimes incurable diseases. They all yearn for justice and find hope in the face of a charming young woman who is able to listen and understand them.

The movie seems relevant to some extent. The best thing about it is a real happy ending that inspires and kind of tells you not to be afraid and to believe in yourself and people.

A life-affirming film that makes you believe that not everything in our world is decided by money, that justice does exist. Although more often you have to sacrifice something for the sake of truth.

A movie about how a single mother of three children played a decisive role in the fight for the rights of residents of an entire city.

But despite all the “victory”, the story that happened is still sad. No amount of money can buy the health of the affected people back, not to mention the horrors of illness they have experienced.

While viewing this picture, the inevitable question arises: what about other people? Why is it only Erin who decides to fight, while others do not actively participate? Unfortunately, others simply do not dare, or they are satisfied with everything.

It’s always like this, the majority are busy only with themselves and what can directly affect them. And few people think about the common good: that not only I, but also everyone else, should live well, and for many generations to come. They just don’t realize how important it is - the fight for truth and humanity.

Remember, one person's spark can be enough for everyone. It’s a pity that people have forgotten how to trust each other because they don’t see a silver lining in their problems.
