I promised to tell you about the roads in California... I was reproached by some comrades for not posting videos with a "beautiful highway," especially when I wrote a post about San Diego: "Why wasn't there a place for a photo with a "beautiful highway" without speed limits? There must be so many cars rushing through it that it's hard to breathe."
OK, I'm telling you. Indeed, there are many cars speeding along California's highways, given the fact that almost every adult has their own private car. Approximately 2-3 cars per family. As of 2021, California has become the federal state with the largest number of motor vehicle registrations in the United States.
California authorities have made ambitious commitments to switch everyone to zero-exhaust electric vehicles by 2035. Well, we'll see about that, as they say...
Let's get back to the present... California roads are not equal to roads in Russia. It's generally different. There is not a single city where everything is localized and a separate suburb where there is nothing... Los Angeles and the surrounding area is a huge area where people live everywhere. On the mountains, between the cities... everywhere. There is no clear line here, there is a city and people live here, but there is no one here... Cities move from one another and I would call them districts, it's more like districts, but these are cities. All of them are connected by a huge number of highways (these are expressways). If you take a wrong turn, it's not a big deal, these roads are so connected to each other that the route will be rebuilt instantly and you won't feel the difference. There are a lot of alternative roads. It's not like in Russia, you've made the right turn and there's no turning back until you reach the next settlement. The roads on the highway are not covered with asphalt, they are monolithic concrete slabs. Asphalt lies only inside towns.
The traffic is huge, and especially in the dark, it feels like you can see the river from the cars. The traffic is very fast on the highway, unlike the inner city streets, on the contrary, there are a lot of moms who sometimes seem to be asleep. Here, according to the rules, if someone turns on the turn signal and it's not dangerous for you, then you have to skip. That's why everyone lets everyone through here, except for some fuckers... impolite people are easier to drive in this regard. Everything is very fast on the roads, but not aggressive, as in the Russian Federation. They will always let you through, let you change lanes, and if you are a pedestrian, they will stop 3 kilometers away and politely let you through. Of course, if you miss someone, they don't thank you with a flashing light, because it's prescribed in the rules. There are no policemen standing guard here, they don't sell their sticks... They serve exactly that, and it commands respect. I've witnessed the work of traffic cops, and it's awesome. For us, who are used to arrogant and imposing sellers of chopsticks, this is just a movie. Everything is fast, coordinated, and organized. I saw a couple of times how the documents are checked, I did not understand for what reason. One extreme row is occupied, cones are exposed. There are 3 or 4 police officers standing at once, 4 cars stop at once, one car for each policeman, documents are checked, it takes seconds and 4 cars are released at once. The action repeats. It's just a sight to behold. The police officers are handsome and fit with a snow-white smile.
Okay, let's leave them, let's move on. There are serious problems with turning on the turn signals, almost no one turns them on... only me. The traffic police does not particularly supervise, this has its drawbacks and its advantages. But if you get caught on violations, there will be a big fine. The judge can just forgive and let go. But if it's a repeat and a malicious violation, you may regret it very much. There is no gloss and cleanliness on the roads, but there is everything for safety. And so it is everywhere in America, there is no gloss and polish, but there is everything that is necessary.
Traffic jams. Of course, there are a lot of cars, but unlike St. Petersburg, traffic jams are moving. You just drive slower in them...
By the way, unlike the Russian rules, you can turn right at a red light here, except in places where it is prohibited. And there is always a separate lane in the middle for turning left. It is very comfortable.
Next is a video of the road from LA to San Diego. Videos of roads in towns and roads in tmutarakan, I was even there... There are roads everywhere, shopping malls and shops everywhere, people live everywhere, electricity is provided...
God has given man freedom of choice. And no other person has the right to take it away from you. I remain free and wish you all the same, to be free!
