This is my first photo in the USA. This is the first thing you see after passing through customs control, making a sigh of relief that you have entered the country.
Many people ask me, how did you leave? We had US visas and I came here 10 days before the end of my visa. I was ready that they might not let me into the country. But God is good! I got my visa in 2019, and it wasn't easy anymore. Who remembers that since March 29, 2018, the Russian Federation has closed the US Consulate General in St. Petersburg and expelled 60 American diplomats.

Before getting a visa, I heard a lot of horror stories that it's difficult to get a visa, they don't give it to anyone, they find fault. At first, I turned to a very publicized agency, but they intimidated me that the chances were slim and they were openly rude. As a result, we went to a modest travel agency, where our eldest daughter once received a visa to China and did not lose. I can't advertise the agency because it closed in Covid. In general, everything was done professionally and helped to catch the interview window in Warsaw. There were options through Israel, Finland, Almaty (but Almaty closed the possibility of an interview at that time) and Warsaw. I chose Warsaw and I was right. First of all, I really liked Warsaw, before that we underestimated Poland in terms of tourism and for nothing. Secondly, my fears were not justified and I saw a completely different situation. Before leaving, I shared my fears with the girl from the travel agency who processed the documents for me, to which she told me: "this is all nonsense, visa approval comes in 90% of cases. If everything is in order with your documents and everything corresponds to how you wrote, then you will receive a visa." She instilled this confidence in me, thanks to her, I wish I could remember her name.
There was one window in Warsaw where the interview was conducted in Russian (there were more windows for those who knew English), and so we all sat in front of this window and saw how many visas were approved and how many were refused. Unfortunately, I don't remember how many of us there were (at least 50 people). But of all the people who came before me, only three were rejected... As we understood what was being rejected or approved, well, firstly, those who were approved were happily thanked for a long time and they left the window without a passport, and those who were refused, left the window with a passport. What questions were asked to me: the reason for the trip, what did you want to visit in the USA, where do you work? That's all... Less than 5 minutes, but what 5 minutes, maybe 2 minutes...
By the way, strange characters received visas. I remember a brutal guy with his family and wearing a tricolor T-shirt. His son proudly told me that they were Russians. Although I didn't express interest in any way. I smiled and replied that I was happy for them, but I was not Russian... They have received visa approval...
So it's not that difficult to get a visa, it's readily approved if you do everything correctly and meet the criteria, but it's extremely difficult to get it, at the same time, because everything is done by the Russian Federation not to get it.
My husband got a visa there, but it was even easier, he already knew the whole procedure, what questions were asked, and he got it for himself and our youngest daughter (it's easy to get a minor, you don't need to take a child for an interview, just submit the documents, if you approve, then the child... And he managed to do it before the pandemic lockdown, only he returned and all borders were closed... Luck? A happy combination of circumstances? We believers call it God's grace...
I had an obsessive desire to get a US visa. Does this happen to you? Thanks to this obsession, we are here. I have fix obsessions from time to time, and it's never let me down before. I had an obsession with starting a business when I didn't know how to approach it at all. Then this business fed us well, and when my husband lost his job, we quietly survived these hardships. I had an obsession with getting a visa to the United States. When the war started, I got the obsession that I had to leave... Every time this inexplicable feeling comes to me, I put my ideas into practice at all costs and then later see how important it was to do it... Many would say that this is intuition. But that's not what I call it. It seems to me that in my head many different facts and my understanding of them add up to a kind of supposed picture that haunts me and makes me act... Does this happen to you?
